      Tell me about woodworking

I used to make stuff with my opa(grandfather) and my nonno(grandfather) when I was younger... and I've always like putting stuff together so I want to get into basic woodworking. Building benches, tables, shelves, decks, etc. As a hobby and maybe sell them too.

What are the basics I should know, and what should I have, equipment-wise to get started?
Any books I should read or classes I should take?

I don't mean to disappoint; I'm in no way qualified to give more useful advice.

But here's a list of websites you might want to save until later.

Amazon has beginner's guidebooks/resource books, also.

Dunno if he's still around, but you might want to try sending a PM to Oneironaught. He was our resident awesome woodworking guy.

I'm taking Woodworking at my high school, so maybe I can help.

Equipment: You could just have a hammer, nails, and handsaw... but these are going to make work very slow and difficult. We have bandsaws, spinning lathes, table saw, hacksaw, wood chipper, etc., but all that stuff is probably well over $5,000.

I mean, there's really not much you can say. Wear safety glasses. It's all mostly common sense and practice.

      Any specific questions?

Try finding a job in a Mill Shop as a cabinet makers apprentice. You may need to purchase tools like a chisel, hammer, measuring tape etc
