Post Tell me about Verizon Fios

I'm thinking about giving up Dish Network and getting Verizon Fios (internet/phone/satellite programming).

It seems like a great bundle deal but I've read horror stories about their customer service but most importantly about their DVR and remote (i.e., dropped programs/wrong schedules, etc.).

Does anyone have any first hand experience with Verizon Fios?

I don't actually have it, but most of my friends do.

The On Demand is pretty bad compared to Comcast, well, most of their TV isn't as good as Comcast's offerings. The internet has pretty similar DL speeds, but much better uploads. Verizon doesn't send out very many letters against piracy like Comcast does, but, as you said, their customer support isn't as good.

      Hope I could help.

I just got the basic internet tier today 10Mbps down, 2Mbps up. No TV service though, I've stayed with DirecTV for that for now. Download speed is a little faster than advertised for my tier, upload is about as expected when taking into account TCP overhead. http://www.speedtest.net/rank/1213060776.png My packet loss is about 0.4% so far, judging by logging all packets and counting retransmissions as indicative of lost packets. Can't hope for much better than that really, some loss is the nature of the internet.

I'm happy so far, I got a very clean install, with an all-in-one Optical Network Terminal/Battery Backup Unit installed in an indoors location rather than on an outside wall, all cables well secured and covered over inside cable housings.

Thanks guys! I just signed up for the tv/internet/phone bundle which should save me about $100 a month over what I was paying for all that stuff separately.

      Hope it works out!
