Tell me about vaporizers and atomizers

Being a smoker for only 2 1/2 more days is making me panic a bit.
I can't afford the e-cigarette, so I want to make my own.
I can wear a nicotine patch to get over the physical withdrawal symptoms, but for me, smoking is also an oral and tactile (?) fixation. I enjoy holding a cigarette, I enjoy inhaling the smoke and I enjoy the menthol fix.

When I quit smoking about 9 years ago, in desperation, I stuck a tic tac in the end of a straw and "inhaled" whenever cravings became too bad.
But it didn't work very well lol. And inhaling air bothers my deuodenitis (an "ulcer in the making" that I've had for at least 12 years lol)

I would want it to be battery powered so I could hold it like a cigarette.
I don't have the education to create something on my own, so I've been thinking about just getting some cardboard and making a tube and sticking some Vicks nasal inhaler in some filtered material and placing it in the tube.
I need to buy another nasal inhaler though, because I"m not sure exactly what's in it or if it can be worked with (I'm assuming it's a stick).

Thoughts? Suggestions?
