      Tell me about sailing

Anyone try it. I did last summer, I signed-up for lessons. If you haven't yet, try it.

I always watched them float by while I sat on the beach - hoping that one day someone would float on by and say," Hey you want to go sailing?"

It was fantastic, a great feeling, and very challenging activity.

      Anyone else try sailing?

Gahr. I be quite the sailor. What'd you sail, craft-wise?

      I found myself a $500 fleabay item:
18 foot (Cape18) sailboat, shined her up last year.

      Sailed her this year.

I want to make an acorn skiff for next year, or a sailing canoe.

      You? What do you sail?

Small craft, river sailing (I don't even actually sail in a river, it's a big stagnant lake that's shaped like a river, so they call it a river). Lasers, Sunfish, DC's, sometimes we'd joy ride the yacht club members' Hunters. Good times. My dad sails in the Chesapeake sometimes with his old Navy buddies, I think I'd like to get in on that.

I have been on a sail boat before and its a very interesting experience. I could see myself out on the lake doing it for hours. Its an interesting experience. I wish i could take up sailing. If i had the opportunity.

Sailing is fun. I've sailed a 47 foot ketch out off the coast of Cali and my buddy and I sailed it up to the Oregon coast to meet with friends and bring them back down in our little vessel. It was tons of fun!

      Thanks for sharing

I love it so much now, being on the water. The thrills that sailing brings
I wish everyone was able to experience this type of activity.

The wind in my sails, feel of wind in my hair.
I'll have to take photos to share.
      What adventures to come.

I hope you make the opportunity if you wish, life passes by too quick.

47 foot, that's a pretty fair sized boat. Cool

A semi-related question for all who have the following habit; why are all your boats female? I've never heard a boat called anything other than 'she', 'her' or the the actual 'name' of the boat.
      Is there a reason?

It's just tradition. Sailing is a very superstitious thing.

I actually have been in a small boat before. Fun as hell.

Hey guys, I'm back. Feels good man

sailboats/ships are a truly interesting case in English language,
as they are among the only inanimate objects that take a gendered pronoun (traditionally).

There are many superstitions related to sailing, but are just that - superstitions.
Unless of course you believe in those old superstitions!

From re-naming a boat, or from leaving for a voyage on Friday verse any other day. "Friday's sail, Always fail" - There are many many examples.
Some sailors are still among the most superstitious folks on the planet.

I sailed for a week through Florida Sea Base along the Florida Keys on a ~27 ft. boat. That was a heckuva time! We (other boy scouts along) trolled as much as we could and caught 2 barracuda within a day of each other, a 32 in. tunny, and a bonnethead, among others.

I took the helm for a bit, too. (the captain liked to be in control of his own boat)

Signature by Kexo, Avatar by itschemistry (Thanks!)

Sometimes I wonder if anyone has really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like.
