Tell Me About iTouch vs iPhone

My iTouch 2gen seems to have been ruined beyond repair (luckily every update/purchase has been synced to my iTunes already), and I think I want a new one sometime in the future. I'm not interested in the phone capabilities of the iPhone, because I already have a very cheap phone I almost never use, and I've heard bad things about the iPhone service and how freakin' expensive the monthly bill is. I just want an iPod with tons of space, music, internet, video, good apps and a camera (if only they made that available on the newest iTouch. I'm still pissed about that).

As for what my iTouch is doing right now, it keeps syncing to my iTunes over and over again while it's plugged into my computer. Every time it stops syncing, it freezes on the battery menu, and then eventually it makes the syncing sound and syncs again. I plugged it in initially because it froze on an app with music still playing loudly and there was nothing I could do about it. It seems to show progress in how much it's been recharged, though.

How reaaally unlucky for you, i purchased the 1st gen right before the second gen came out, as far as technology goes, if you have itunes store credit you can get the same crap you have on your new ipod on a first gen, the pluses of this are (all that i've found) is that the first gen is waaaay more reliable, i've had it for coming up to two years now and it's been nothing but reliable. What im talking about is this, Its been through some of the worst abuse by me. I've dropped it down duel flights of stairs, water logged, more dropping it, dirt/dust. So far it's withstood all of that, haha not to mention the screen for the 1st gen is way stronger, i have lots of friends with 2nd gens that mostly have broken screens, i've had no problems with that. One downside of course would be locating one in decent condition from someone who is selling one these days, another downside is the no outside speaker thing, but i find it has more pluses then downsides..
oh one more thing the wireless detector/signal reciever in the first gen is better than the iphones (i've done tests with my friends, i pickup signals they dont)
i dunno another possibility could be maybe you just bought a lemon of an ipod?
      just my two cents..

My 1st gen. iPod just did die. Bless hubby, because about 2 months after it died, hubby gave me a 3rd generation. I love it. I too wish it had a camera though. But I have a DSi and I use it's camera a LOT and I also have a great digital camera so I can live without the addition.

Hubby keeps up on all the latest iPod technology. If I remember him correctly, the phones aren't up to par as far as apps are concerned. It doesn't have the space that's available for the iPod and some of the apps are glitchy.
So, if you're not a big cellphone user and can live without the camera, I'd get the third gen iPod Touch.
The only problem I've had with mine in the week I've had it is that it crashes sometimes when I play Civ (or rather, the app crashes).

The contrast on my 1st gen gave out. I LOVE iNotes and have sereral books of the Bible written into it which took forever to do. I was SO worried that it wouldn't transfer my data even though I synch it regularly. It synched perfectly and I couldn't be happier
