Tell me about becoming a vet.

I'm in year 10 in Australia, I'm wondering what kind of subjects you have to or should take in year 11 and 12. Tell me about any experiences you have had with vets or animal health.

I would assume biology and chemistry. Both would be extremely important when working with any animal. Maybe try and get in contact with Burns, she's a vet.

Well the programs are going to be different in different countries.

Do you still need to get a 4 year degree before going to Vet school there?

Usually people spend 4 years and get a degree in something like biology. Then another 4 years in vet school.

For my vet program I need (at the college level) Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Algebra/Trig, English Composition, Microbiology, Genetics, Organic Chemistry, Anatomy & Physiology.

So at the high school level be sure you have all the high level math/science classes: bio, chem, physics, algebra or calculus, and english.

(oh and Burnsy is a vet tech, I asked her about vet school but she really didn't have much advice since she didn't go to vet school, she could only give me general advice she'd heard from the vets she works with)
