Sleep Paralysis?
edit: Woops, just noticed the WILD forum haha. Can a mod move please?
So I've just recently gotten back into LDing, which I was never the best at anyway, after watching Inception lol. I decided that I want to learn and eventually master the WILD technique because it's definitely the most effective. I set my alarm for about 5h40min after i fell asleep and was ready to go.
I woke up dead tired but ready to go. I didn't really get out of bed or anything because I feared that I would not be able to fall back asleep if I did so. I closed my eyes and acted as if I was trying to fall back asleep, but at the same time I tried to remain conscious. I almost immediately noticed that certain parts of my body had gotten very heavy and numb and I began to see bright white lights. The problem was that i became fixated on the experience, causing it to instantly diminish.
So my question is....
Was that Sleep Paralysis?
How can remain clear minded? (I tried to focus on my breathing but I would quickly catch myself thinking verbally)

You're approach to the WILD seems very well thought out and seems the best route to go. You seem like your're on the right track, but you just need to control your emotions. Keep calm while all this is happening and try not to focus on the imagery too much.
But to answer your question, yes this is the onset of SP! Good job!

Try practicing meditation to get better at maintaining focus. Aside from that, Inception rocked as far as LD goes.
