I had a dream yesterday and I did 2 reality checks, but they didn't work.
The first one was what I usually do. Try to change the number that I
wrote on my arm (a Nine (9)), but it wasn't there, it might be because the
sharpie that I use fades away after going to the bathroom and taking
shower's, etc. Then I decided to do another, this time its your hand going
through the other, but when I tried it. It just hit the other hand like it would
in reality. Does anybody got any tips?
I generally count the fingers on one hand, or pinch my nose and try to breathe through it. Everybody's different, so you should experiment with different RCs to find the ones that work for you.
Whenever I'm in doubt, I jump out a window.
The only fool proof RC that has worked for me since I began my Lucid venture is the classic nose pinch/breath. when I pinch my arm I feel pain, dreaming or no, I still haven't managed to put my hands through anything and my hands have always looked normal in my dream, but I still try them regardless. I would recommend going through a list of RC's for your next Lucid, there are bound to be at least a few RC's that should work.
You also said that the 9 had faded when you checked it. I would make sure that I knew the 9 was there and well marked prior to going to bed, that way if you check it in a dream and there's no sign of it, you can be sure that you are dreaming. I wouldn't think a well marked 9 could fade during sleep if you catch my drift.
Yeah I've tried a number of RCs, but they all work differently for different people. Besides, some just don't work for some people or they function differently, or just aren't viable to constantly use in the real world (ie. trying to poke my finger through my hand or jump and fly at school is a little weird for some people.)
Personally, I recommend the nose pinch RC because it can be done anytime in real life and dream world, requires no preparation (except having a nose, really..) and can be quick. Works for me. But yeah, as said, test out some other ones. :D
Yeah nose pinch RC works better for almost everyone, but I found the hand through finger one works just as well IMO. About that 9 thing though, I've never heard of that as an RC, but a couple days ago I found a bracelet that says DREAM. I've noticed in my dreams it's not on my wrist anymore, presumably the longer I wear it the more likely it will be to show up in my dreams. Funny though, I never heard of that changing text/symbols thing, but that's the reason I started to wear the bracelet, I figured if I could change the text, or make the text disappear then I was dreaming.
It doesn't matter the RC you use, so much as the belief it will work. People often use telekinesis as an RC, if you really try to imagine/believe it happening, it will in a dream. That and being serious about asking you if your dreaming. It's happened to me where I do an RC and it works like it would in RL cause I got into the habit of expecting it to fail, and doing it autonomously.
Look into a mirror. Supposedly you'll see something entirely odd than your true reflection.
I also heard something about turning a light switch on and off...not sure about that though.
