I FINALLY Conquered My Fear Of Sleep Paralysis!!!!!!

WOW! I'm so proud of myself what a milestone! I've had a few lucid dreams in the past 2 years. And This would be the first one that I had while slipping into SP! I went to bed at 8pm and woke up at around 3am. Something startled me like I heard something strange in my room, and I peaked my eyes open and noticed that the room was tilted sideways, and I immediately realized I was partially in SP, because of the hallucinations. So I lied still in my bed and just said to myself I'll let the SP waves pass over me and go back to sleep easy as that. So I lay there and feel a wave slowly move up my body and eventually over my face, then a soft pink noise sets in and eventually fades away all in a matter of about 20 seconds! Then its gone all is quiet, and my eyes are still shut, everything is dark and black still.

This is when I start to go into the unknown because I've never done this before neither have I really read what to actually do after this. At first I tried to let a dream materialize in front of my closed eyes, but nothing happens. So I just opened them and I was in my pitch dark room, but I could see the street lamps outside. I get out of bed and look at the ground and it looks a bid odd, almost like its farther down that usual. Then I walk out of my room and look at a door, I rub my hands and tell myself this is a lucid dream and I'm going to practice my control now. So I imagine an awesome beach will be on the other side of the door, and that it will be daytime. So I open the door and see the beach but it is still night, so I walk out onto this balcony and snap my fingers and say that it will be day and the sky turns a really deep deep blue, but the lighting is still the same. I go to snap my finger a 3rd time and I wake up!

AWW. This always happens, I can never quite get things to happen the way I want them, or as soon as I try to control something I wake up. The last time this happened I tried levitating up in the air. I did for only about 3 seconds before waking up.! GRR

What do you all suggest I do once I enter a lucid dream? I really want to practice control, because one day I wish to actually talk with dream characters and eventually be able to fly. I've had a total of about 5 lucid dreams in the past 2 years. Another strange this is I have never really seen another dream character face to face yet. Everytime I enter a LD, I'm totally alone, and there is nothing really happening, I'm just in a static scene. Like somewhere in my house.

The dreaming mind often has difficulties in "rendering" complex lighting changes. In studies of expert lucid dreamers, they are almost never able to modify lighting values in their dream environments; light switches practically never function, and attempting to perform dream control over a scene's lighting can be difficult or impossible.

very interesting. so when we enter a lucid dream that is dark, we are just supposed to go along with it? It kind of sucks hardly being able to see anything. :(

That was an awesome read. I got a little scared because you walked around your room without performing a reality check. I thought you were going to jump out a window or something, lol. You're still new to lucid dreaming, so naturally the dreams may end quickly. Don't worry though, with more practice things will get better and easier.

Well I've always had a natural sense of knowing whether I'm in a dream or not. Perhaps it's because I haven't had a 100% clarity lucid dream yet. I'll try doing a reality check the next time I enter an LD. Maybe because that I just assume it's a dream, that is the reason why it's so very unstable all the time?

Also this morning I just thought maybe I should focus more on the micro vs the macro. Instead of trying to change the big picture, just try to control small things around me (just for practice). I usually just walk around and immediately try the change the scene to one I desire.

The longest LD I ever had was one where I didn't try to change the scene, I instead just talked to DC's and manipulated objects around me. Like throwing a ball and pushing it into outer space.

Congratulations on the LD. For me it's totaly different though. I enjoy SP and hit it very easy, but can't fall asleep. Everytime i open my eyes or try to roll out, i'm still awake. How did the transition feel for you and what were you thinking about after the SP feeling ended?

I'll describe the experience of SP the best I can.


Soon as I woke up I recognized right away that I was partially in SP. So my body was already extremely relaxed and in the perfect position. All I had to do was just stay calm, drift back to sleep, and stay conscious.

At first it starts out as a wave starting at my feet, and it works slowly up into my lower legs, thighs, abdomen, chest, then up and over my face. The feeling is a mix between my body being filled up with sand and being submerged underwater. I also feel subtle vibrations throughout my body. I also hear a soft noise, like an old TV with no signal. Once the SP wave rolls over my face, I just relax and focus on my breathing. Eventually the auditory and physical sensations will subside, and all will be silent and still. Once the SP was finished, I waited about 10 seconds, then thought: "Hmm, I'm most likely dreaming by now." So I opened my eyes and sure enough I was in the dream world. I opened my eyes and got out of bed like I would in waking life.

I suggest not moving 1 muscle, don't even try twitching to feel the paralysis. Just don't move at all. Focus on your breathing, feel the air enter and leave your lungs. Also wait a good long time before opening your eyes. Try to wait longer than usual before trying to roll out of your body; wait until you hear absolutely nothing and feel nothing. The more you focus on the SP experience itself, I think you are more likely to stay awake. Just let it do it's thing but concentrate on your breathing. It's what I did, and this was the first time I entered a dream whilst going into SP. So it worked like a charm for me. :)

But yeah this was my first WILD. It happened totally at random too, I havn't even journaled a dream in 3 months lol. I'm really going to take advantage of SP now, it's like a free ticket into an LD. :)

Thanks for the detailed description, but i know how this stuff feels and i can get into SP without a problem for quite some time. I never move and always focus on breathing. Last night i waited for about 10 minutes maybe after being in SP, but the problem is that i always get the feeling i'm too awake. Everytime i open my eyes, i'm always in the real world. I just have a feeling that i need to FEEL really asleep in order to enter the dream and i always feel so awake. So i was wondering how did you feel after the noises and the feelings after SP, were you on the edge of falling asleep or quite awake in your mind and was still able to enter the dream?

I may just have a wrong image about what your status should be when you go for it and open your eyes or roll out. OR... It may also be that i've only tried this without prior sleep and just admit that like most of the people, i can't WILD right when i go to bed. I just feel that i'm so close with this.

Well when I woke up, I had already been asleep for about 6 hours. So after the SP passed I still felt pretty tired. I wasn't on the edge of falling asleep, my mind was fully alert. Just the experience of SP itself, jolts my alertness nearly to it's peak. I mean.. seeing my room tilted sideways was startling enough lol

to: Navtyr - I also forgot to mention. You aren't supposed to WILD, or even attempt to lucid dream at bedtime. The reason you aren't entering a dream is because you aren't in the REM phase of sleep yet. We don't experience REM until sleeping for at least 90 minutes, and this REM stage will only last about 10 minutes, as time progresses into the morning the REM periods last longer and longer, up to an hour.

Try setting an alarm to wake you up after about 4-5 hours of sleep. Once the alarm goes off that is your cue to start the WILD technique. You will be ready to enter REM sleep immediately and therefore have the ability to transition from SP to Lucid Dreaming. I wish you the best of luck! :)

i hadnt gotten much sleep in the last couple days and decided to sleep on my back and try to go into sp
i lied down relaxed my body and counted my breaths back from 100 around 60 my mind started to wander and my thoughts seemed to become realler i guese you'd say
like i saw pictures instead of just thinking them
some of the images scared me so i tried to get up and my body was incredibly heavy and i could not
move
i looked around a little and kinda panicked
i tried to move againand i could move now but i could hardly hold myself up
