You don't have to repeat a mantra until you fall asleep. You can repeat it maybe for five minutes then just sleep normally. Most people are going to keep themselves awake visualizing that. People tend to get a misconception of what MILD really is. It's not about mantras, or autosuggestion.
Go boil some eggs in a pot. Tell yourself that you will remember to come back in 15 minutes. I guarantee you won't remember to come back, and by the time you do, they'll be burnt. Do it everyday. By day three or four, you won't forget no more and you will randomly remember, "Oh shit, the eggs".*
MILD is the same thing. It won't work in the beginnning, but do it every night, and it WILL. It's going to take more practice than the eggs (obviously) because the intention has to be carried over into sleep. Think about what you're doing. You're trying to remember to become lucid. If you do MILD every night, in time you will remember to become lucid. After that, it will become second nature. Why? Because you're trying to remember the SAME thing every night. There's a reason Laberge preaches this technique. It fucking works.
