My dreams feel too real what about yours?

Dear dreamers

I have read and practised lucid dreaming for about 1 year now. Some period very intensley other periods only reading about it.

My problem is:

-When ever i dream I dream about a social context that seems so real that I cannot distinguish the dream from reality. I have studied my dream signs. Which is seeing old relatives, being in strange social contexts etc. I know that these dream signs should tricker my lucidity when I know them so well but it do not trigger my attention until i wake up.

I have rubber wrist where which says: "Am I Dreaming?" With it I am doing reality checks. However I do forget to do reality checks.

Just to mention for you guys I have had one partly lucidity experience in my dream due to a reality check I did in my dream with the rubber wrist band by asking the question "Am I draming". Thus it does work but know I have problems with getting that lucidity stage again.

I hardly do reality checks anymore because i feel demotivated since I don't get results. I have tried for after 2 month on and off with the wrist band technique.

Maybe I am not focused enough on doing reality checks during the day. What should I do?
I really appriciate some motivation or tips because I feel very frustrated.

Should i just keep doing reality checks and be patient. What do you think?

You don't become lucid from a reality check. It's really about becoming lucid from a sudden rise in awareness (caused by increasing your awareness during the daytime), and then doing a reality check to back it up. Usually if you're lucid enough, though, you don't even need to do a RC.

Really question reality, instead of doing routine reality checks that are cued by something. When you become lucid, you'll be thinking "how did I not know this was a dream before?" and you'll realise that dreams feel extremely real when you're not lucid.

there are dozens of different techs to try out. each person is different.

-do you keep a dream journal?
-are you doing WBTBs?
-how many hours of sleep do you get?
-have you tried any supplements?
-there are dozens of online books and sites that may have the perfect technique for you!

i know that i get discouraged in the midst of a dryspell, try to stay positive, and don't give up!

Thank you for your answer :-) So what you are saying is that i need to question reality more when i do my reality check? For example when I do reality checks i do really think about if I am dreaming or awake. I am trying not to make it a routine. But I started doing these more comprehensive RC's today.

Yeah. You have to be skeptical and aware, so it'll carry over into your dreams. If you don't do that, you may end up doing reality checks in your dream without becoming lucid. :P

Yup, thats the number one reason why most people who do repetitive meaningless RC's fail to get lucid. They immediately think "oh, I guess I'm not dreaming after all", and go back to whatever's going on. It's because they get into a pattern where they expect the RC not to work. A person who was aware by other means will stop and try the reality check again (or try a different method), because they're trying to figure out why it didn't work.

Pretty much. I've done that a few times. :P

...And while we're on the topic of awareness, I think that should be emphasized much more in the DV tutorial. Last time I checked it was more on reality checking, which is really only used to confirm that you're dreaming.

Good advice. It is all about raising your awareness. In addition to the awareness/ reality checks, you should experiment with Wake Back To Bed (WBTB). I think it is a huge help in improving your dreams.

Ya and while you experiment with WBTB you should try MILD and WILD too. Both of them really benifet from WBTB.

Also where did you get the are you dreaming wrist band?

WBTB is definitely effective; it helps to increase your awareness and wake up the "logic" part of your brain. And during this time, you can also write down dreams from earlier in the night. It's all good. :content:

Thank you a lot. Its very nice of you to give me some replies. I will try to double or even triple check my reality checks and thus hopefully really check whether I am dreaming or awake. But just one last question; how do you think about reality checks?

I will put up a picture of my wristband with the lazer ingravings. It is a midnight blue with "Am I Dreaming?" ingraved and the ohm sign as well. On the other side of it I have "Seeing With My Thrid Eye". I wrote that because that is what I am doing when I dream. I read about the pineal gland which really got me into all this cool technology.

Yea my dreams are usually really normal. They are just about things I do in my day or things from my past. I mean the dreams are obviously things kind of strange but not strange enough for me to notice. But there's usually something weird in each of my dreams.
