I am still to experience a Lucid Dream and something that comes up a lot on the forums is the topic of Sleep Paralysis. People say it can be scary and others say it's fine, what's your experience with it?
Also, what is your preferred method for inducing a Lucid Dream?
I don't think I've ever reached SP, but I've felt the static tingling in my body and I can move the tingling feelings to different parts. I've experience like, where I sort of try to move and my muscles just barely go in the direction, but I'm not trying to actually move, and if I do, I can move. Pretty much all of my LDs are DILDs or DEILDs. It usually takes me at least an hour to fall asleep, even though I meditate right before I try to, so WILDs have not been my things. I hope to learn them though. How long have you been trying?
Well I've been signed up for a year, but cause of school, tests etc, not really been having the time to be doing RC's during the day. I did try and get into SP once, I'm not quite sure what happened, my body went all tingly but that was it, although when I "woke up" I felt like I had been lying their for several hours, while actually it was more like fifty minutes. Was weird to say the least. :) Anyway, I'm hoping to start trying to LD again. :)
when I first went into SP it was very strange because of its biological bizarre nature. I somewhat enjoy it now, having been in it a million times. It can be scary for most people who aren't used to at first, but when you do it a couple more times, it almost becomes second nature. The first time you go into SP is always the scariest. I wasn't really scared so much as just excited a little. What you should know is that when you go into it, your heart will start racing really fast and your breathing will get very heavy. So just a warning to you. One more thing; not all people experience sleep paralysis.
Ooo I HAVE been there then. Yea the racing heart part got me scared so I moved. I've been working on not being scared of my heartbeat though, so next time I try I think I might be able to do it.
Yeah you should feel your body go numb like you just lost all your limbs and then usually your heart starts racing. It's completely natural, you do it evey single night just unconsciously. Good luck with LD's, I have yet to have a WILD >_< but my persistence is still as strong as stone
Is there anyway in particular you can prepare for it, or is it just a case of trying to remind yourself that this isn't actually happening. I would really like to LD but I think the idea of SP and all the hag stories are quite off-putting.
I had sleep paralysis a few times. One time while I was entering sleep paralysis my body felt like I was being electricuted. My whole body felt like it was vibrating, and it started to hurt. But I wasn't scared, because I knew what it was (in fact, I was trying to get it through the WILD technique). I actually enjoyed the pain, I know it sounds kinda weird, but its like a roller coaster ride...you are scared but you enjoy the thrill.
The only way I can really tell you how to prepare for it is to just consciously say to yourself in your head 'I will not be scared when sleep paralysis kicks in' like a mantra and repeat it. Auto suggestion basically. I'm not entirely sure if this works for sleep paralysis alone, but you can try it. The other thing you can try to do is to try and enjoy it and relax as deeply as you can so you can further drop into SP and possibly turn it into an LD. There's really nothing to be afraid of, it's just a natural process your not used to consciously experiencing.
Haha, I do feel my body go pretty numb with the tingling. Fiona, just do RC's during the day and eventually you'd have a DILD. Nose pinch is the best and most reliable. I guess you'd just have to remind yourself that it's all in your head, and you do it every night unconsciously and you still wake up. That part was what scared me about knowing my heartbeat for a while. Even though I knew it was beating at a healthy rate, I could feel each thump, blood going in, and blood going out, so it felt sort of fast and I'd get scared haha.
One more thing I want to add; to me it sort of feels like a sudden rush of adrenaline. Like a roller-coaster like ^ he said

Thank you so much for that! I've abandoned each WILD attempt up till now, because when my heart started pounding I thought something was wrong--I didn't know if it was part of the SP experience or not. Now that I know other people have felt it as part of the process, I'm more excited than ever to try WILD again! I greatly appreciate it.Quote:

It personally isn't that bad! Just know that if your in SP you can get into a WILD easy.
Ive got to SP and HI and it was wieeeerd. Your eyes get mixed up with abstract art in your head.
Its actually cool when you get used to it.
I've grown to love SP... it used to be the scariest thing ever, comparable to a bad trip on acid, during warfare. Now it's just a ride. Cheers!
Yea I'm afraid of the hag lol, but I should really just quit being a chicken and try it...I mean it's not like it can physically hurt me :)
I just did my first WILD and the only sign that I now recognize was that because I was in a painful position (my anchor) when I entered the dream my body completely stopped hurting. I didn't have any SP besides a little numness maybe
My SP has been pretty mild so far... no hallucinations (yet LOL).
I've renewed my WILD attempts now that I know the rapid heartbeat is nothing to fear (thanks again iDreambig!), and I think I got close to successfully WILDing the other night.
What I felt as I entered SP was a very rapid heartbeat, shortness of breath, and general heaviness throughout my body. Of course, I'm still a novice, so there may be more to come later.
Because of the breathing issue I've had to lay on my back when I do this, instead of my preferred side or stomach positions. This makes it more tolerable.
But this was the first time I saw colors behind my eyes, and after the colors faded, the darkness suddenly seemed to expand into a large 3D space, and I could no longer feel my body at all. I thought to myself "Am I about to enter a dream? Is this what it's like?" but then I snapped out of it, and I could feel my body again. Guess I got excited and thought too hard about it! Will try again this week.
You shouldnt be scared of sleep paralysis. Once you go through it and see that it feels like the best high/trip you have been in, then it wont be much of a problem. You might feel like going through a time portal during sleep paralysis.
I've never induced sleep paralysis exactly, but I have woken up a few times in the "in-between-state" of sleep, like right after one dream has ended I become conscious but all I see is blackness and I'm in sleep paralysis. From here, every single time this has happened to me: I get powerful sounds that build up from a hum into a booming thunder, then I lurch forward into a lucid dream (DEILD I think).
Also, I do see visually but only 1 static image. For example the last time all I saw was a laptop folded out so I could see the screen and keyboard (though I did try to interact with it and got onto dreamviews, ha). Sound always dominates sight for me.
I haven't lasted long in a lucid dream this way because I'm so out of breath from the "tunnel ride", as I call my sleep paralysis and uh, well, the last time as soon as I entered the dream I couldn't help but think negatively and scary things popped up.
But the whole experience of sleep paralysis is amazing in itself, I love when it happens.
Hey guys just had a question(s) about how u induce wilds once youve reached sp.
Now to me im not scarred at all and enjoy the feeling of sp.
Ive "rolled out of my body" into a lucid dream a few times now. but sometimes ill go into sp and get i guess like your saying have hallucinations where i would sit up in bed then my mom would come in and tell me that i have some more time to sleep and that its ok. i go along with it and proceed to fal asleep. realizing what ive jsut done i wake up thinking why did i do that. i feel confused
What im trying to say i guess is once u get to sp what do u do to go rite into a wild(whats your best technique).
I try to "roll out of my body" most of the time but find myself not doing so
By the way ive been looking up this lucid dream stuff for about a month or so now and have had great sucess i think so far.
First I heard a loud rumbling sound. It was so loud I could actually feel pressure in my ears. Then my entire body felt like it was vibrating. It was kind of like I was riding on a train. It wasn't scary at all, I remember thinking it was actually pretty cool while it was still happening. I didn't have any visual hallucinations though...maybe because it didn't last long because I got too excited.

Ive only experienced SP a few times but ive never had a particularly bad experience with it. The most memorable was when i returned to bed from going to the toilet during the night. Almost immediately i heard an immense roaring sound like i was underwater at the bottom of Niagara falls, with that i felt myself falling rapidly and felt as though i was clenching my teeth really tight (this was the only uncomfortable bit).
As this continued i began to see what looked like clouds in my vision, i found myself falling through them faster and faster and as i began to transition into the dream i pierced the bottom of the cloud layer. It took my breath away, i was freefalling towards a huge expanse of ocean, in its centre, what looked to be a tropical island of some type.
Other times noises have been accompanied by feelings of floating, i distinctly remember an experience where i floated into next doors house through my bedroom wall, that was interesting :).
Im sure bad experiences are common too but they can likely be lessened by going into this with a positive attitude, just remind yourself that no matter what happens you cant be harmed during it.

I came to this website to find stories about experiences sleep paralysis and I am disappointed at what I have found. These stories have almost nothing in common with historical findings and the experiences that I have had and the experiences people I have talked to have had.
I've had a few instances of sleep paralysis. It's concerning initially because... well.. You can't move lol. The few instances I've had sleep paralysis I wasn't aware that that was what it was, and most of the time you're only semi conscious for it so it's a trippy experience. But in retrospect it's not that bad.

Well im glad we've opened your eyes a little and you've gained more knowledge on the diversity of effects sleep paralysis causes... Its not all floating out of body or old hag syndrome. Im sure similar experiences to your own have been discussed here before though, DV has a large quantity of posts and information on SP if you search for it.Quote:
