Dream characters tell you you're dreaming?

I took a nap the other day with lucid dreaming in mind. I was going to attempt a WILD, but was to tired, so I just went to sleep. I start having a dream and about midway through the dream I was in a car with four other dream characters. usually I almost NEVER have a dream with dream characters that talk, but these ones started to tell me I was dreaming. I started to believe them by repeating "Ok, so I am in a dream RIGHT NOW?" And they kept telling me I was, but I never became lucid. Why wouldn't I become lucid from something so direct?

You weren't aware enough I guess. Sometimes that happens, you can be told that you are dreaming but still not care about it :p

Meh. It usually doesn't work when DCs tell you. You have to figure it out yourself.

Also, you did a double thread post. Might want to fix that.

I've been LD'ing for 30+ years and never had a dream character tell me I was dreaming. It would be cool if it happened but what normally happens is I become aware when unusual events occur. Maybe someday a DC will enlighten me. One can hope.

Did you do anything afterwards, it seems that you became lucid, as you said that you are dreaming. Second, WILDs are the best when you are tired, you reach SP faster.

Technically you have to KNOW that you are dreaming to count as lucid. He was only TOLD that he was dreaming. Or am I wrong?

Yea, I've heard a number of people talk about this sort of thing happening, it seems that you can actually be told you're dreaming and repeat it back robotically without activating the DLPFC (dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, (part of the brain) assosiated with logic, and almost totally inactive during regular dreaming).

When your dreaming the part of your brain that controls logic is almost un working,

So when there telling you about it you didnt pay attention.

I was always a dreamer, in childhood especially. People thought I was a little strange.-Charley pride

It was weird. In the dream I was told I was dreaming, and I agreed and said I was dreaming, but I never actually be came lucid.

Have you done any work to create these DC's?

I missed a corker this morning. I was with a friend and I said to him, "If I was dreaming I would realise that this is a dream."

Please click on the links below, more techniques under investigation to come soon...

As far as i can remember, the only lucid dream I've had was when my girlfriend told me I was dreaming, and once it sunk in I had control over my surroundings. does anyone know if there are any posts on increasing the likeliness that a DC will tell you you're dreaming?

The same reason you sometimes end up in a spaceship, or flying - you're not aware enough to notice things. And usually, if you do your RCs properly, you can become aware without a cue.
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

Something I've tried in the past few days is have my boyfriend tell me I am dreaming whenever he happens to think about it. When he tells me this I seriously evaluate the experiences of my day and do a RC (I have hematite magnets that wobble on each other when you try to spin one). Last night a DC told me I was dreaming I realized I had no idea who this man was and did a RC like a light switch it was instant lucidity. This was the first time a DC had helped me attain lucidity.
I was somewhat surprised this worked when I woke up... but maybe a DC telling you that you are dreaming just doesn't sink in because you are not used to it.

Happend to me last night the king of some castle told me "Screw this, just become lucid and control your dreams." But the thing is, all it really did was make me DREAM or think I was lucid dreaming, then agian, maybe it REALLY was a lucid dream, I woke up right after it ended so Idk and that never happened before...

This one time, I had this guy I don't know showing me a power point presentation on how this was a dream, the weird things happening and showed me this website. We started arguing about this. It didn't even occur to me to try a reality check. When I woke up, I was like "DMANIT! You were right!" in my head.

I dreamt I was teaching a class on how to WBTB, and the other teacher said "We could be dreaming right now" and I didn't do a RC or anything. FAIL. It's pretty funny that we miss stuff like that.
