      Taste as an anchor

Ok, so this morning I had an incredible LD or 2 LD's where I felt as many textures of things as possible and even ended up licking a large whitish colored rock which was salty. Has anyone else used taste to anchor them selves into an LD? It seemed to work really well for me because I had one of my longer LD's. Below I have pasted my DJ of the LD/s.

P.S. Sorry for the poor dream recall, I have been on a 2 week detox program and it seems to be greatly effecting my recall???? Anyone else experience this?

P.P.S. If you have 2 LD's without waking up in-between is that considered 2 separate LD's or one LD that transitions into another?

      Dream Journal 01.08.11

This LD started off in a wooded area on a dirt-covered road. There were a few people involved but I can’t really remember the LD well. I realized I was dreaming and looked at my hands that were missing the tops of my middle and index fingers. I was on the side of the road and I was feeling the texture of a strange white looking rock. It was a large rock maybe 2 feet in diameter. I decided to do something that I have never done before, I licked the rock…It tasted salty and was relatively pleasing. I’m not sure where the transition took place but that’s all I remember of the woods dream. I transitioned into a room where there was some sort of meeting going on. There were maybe 6 people in the room most wearing suits. We were sitting around a table and discussing something I wasn’t interested in because I knew I was still dreaming. I began feeling all kinds of different things and was completely amazed at the level of texture I perceived. There wasn’t much strangeness going on and I began to question whether or not I was dreaming. I said to myself this must be real, I can feel and see everything perfectly. I looked down at my hands again and saw that my hands were still missing the middle and index fingers. I tried to change them to normal but couldn’t so my level of control was low. I sat down at the table and began rubbing my wife's upper thigh. She was wearing a short skirt. To my surprise no one seemed to notice at the table. I smirked and was delighted at the level of realness and lucidity in this dream. A noise woke me up just then.

I can't say I have ever tasted anything in a lucid dream. I will try on my next LD. I do run my hands across objects to feel the texture and have been quite amazed by the 'realness'. It is also interesting how often a small group of people show up in my LDs. They never pay much attention to me or me to them... but they sure do like to talk amongst themselves.

It was a very interesting sensation and I feel that it acted as a strong anchor. I have been focusing on anchoring techniques so I can lengthen my LD's. I am new to this so I'm only have LD's every 2 weeks or so but I have been keeping track and the time between LD's is narrowing. Anyways I would recommend trying to taste something...pretty much anything. Let me know if it increases the length of your LD and helps with whatever achievement your are trying for.

Try taking a bite out of a tree. That should strongly stimulate just about every sense (except maybe hearing) at once, which is ideal for stabilization.

I've done it myself to keep dreams going that would have otherwise faded very quickly.

      That just made me LOL

OT: I'm crazy about all kinds of different tastes in the waking life, so I'm certainly going to try this! I think it might do the trick more than just touching and examining stuff.

My sense of taste is probably my strongest anchor, I usually eat grass during my lucids. Temperature works well too; try drinking a really cold or warm beverage if you can remember. I managed it once and it resulted in an incredibly clear and stable LD.

The more senses you engage during a dream, the more likely it is to remain stable.

      Cool, Thanks for the response!

I think I will be making an effort to try this again.

It's funny that you mention this because I almost tried it in my last LD. For some reason a had an urge to try biting a tree. Next time I will try if I get the opportunity.

When i first saw your topic, i thought you were talking about an anchor to use while attempting WILD. I thought you were going to say you put candy or something in your mouth to use the taste as an anchor to keep you from losing awareness during you WILD attempt. That might have been a good idea until you starting choking to death. I hope nobody is dumb enough to try that. Anyway...

I've never tried using taste to anchor myself in a dream before. I've only used tactile sense before. I've thought about going around taking bites of stuff that's not edible in real life, but i haven't tried it yet.

Good point! NOBODY eat candy or anything else while attempting to sleep.....

      DG

I would recommend trying the technique as it may help you remain in an LD longer.

I saw this forum last night. I wasn't planning on trying it as I've never been lucid before, but it seeped into my mind. I had my first lucid last night and I started tasting a bookshelf right a way. The dream got really clear. Sadly, my alarm woke me up shortly after that. I'm going to try this again next time.

Hello, I'm glad it worked for you. It's good to see that it helped someone new to LDing like myself. Try to remember to do this when you LD to help anchor yourself in the dream.

I tried this in my ld last night. I became aware in walmart. Now don't laugh... The first thing i noticed was some jeans and bras hanging on a clothes rack. Which one would you have tasted? Anyway, i took a bite out one of the bras and it tasted just like cloth. By concentrating on the sense of taste, the dream became more clear and stable. That wasn't the first thing i had planned on tasting, but it worked!

      lol

Nice one! Now I'm convinced this is a good technique.

Stimulating as many senses in an LD is probably the best way to stay in one. I have been thinking.....most of the time people that I dont know are in my dreams. I think that if I get a chance I will try to hold someones hand and have a conversation and see what happens.
