May be of help to you
Last night i went to sleep with my guitar leaning against the bed. In the middle of the night my REM sleep movements caused it to fall against something, making an unusual racket and I bolted up - right in the middle of a dream that I most certainly would not have remembered. I'm interested in LD but don't make any special effort to achieve it and so I went back to sleep. But now I'm thinking that could be something to consider if you want to wake up in ther middle of REM for a technique - especially if you can't afford to lie in come morning.
A motion sensor alarm clock if you will, though I wouldn't like to risk my guitar again...
And the moral is, if it wasn't for that freak occurrence I would not have remembered my dream that was... something... ummm... well all I remember now is that it involved hermaphrodite discrimination. Pretty sure it wasn't sexual, I had been to a comedy show the night before that would explain it.
Hope it interested you. Peace.

I have thought about this. There is an iphone application that records your movement throughout the night as we awaken after every REM period and we generally move when we awaken. It would be handy to be awoken into full consciousness to catch these ideal opportunities to record dreams and also to practice WILD methods.

are you talking about the sleep cycle alarm clock app?

just like the other poster said, there's apps for the iphone, ipod touch, ipad that track sleep cycles (according to movement) and there is "smart alarm clock:sleep cycles and noise recordings" also known as "sleep tracker" which I JUST bought, it tells you what time your REM phase actually was, unlike the other one I have which is "sleep cycle alarm clock". I haven't used sleep tracker but I will soon. I think it is more promising, it has more features and tells what time of night of each phase you were in. I'm trying a WILD tonight, but later this week I will try it out.

Yeah, I guess it was a cruder, more disruptive and potentially hazardous version of your ipod technology. But as they say, to each their own.
