Trouble WILDing
Hey guys,
So I've been trying to do WILD for weeks now and every night that I attempt it I either fall asleep and forget about having a lucid dream or I end up staying awake throughout the whole night or until I give up. I've only ever had two lucid dreams and the latter was very brief and they were both dreams in which I realized something was strange. This is really frustrating as I wish I could have a surefire way to LD but I just can't seem to do WILDs correctly. Sometimes I would feel what I thought was SP but every time it just turns out that my body just got really numb from standing still the whole time. And every time I would hear the smallest sound I would sort of get out of falling into sleep and have to start all over again
What am I doing wrong?

WILD is about balancing. You say you're either to awake or to sleepy. Well don't stress, I've got some good news: success lies in the middle. Some people fail at WILD because they always get to sleepy and some people because they stay too awake. You do both, so you're chances of doing a succesfull WILD are ok. You just need some finetuning.
Well for some practical tips, please consider the following:
-Don't force yourself too much. It really is not about failing and succeeding. It is an exploration not a lifedependent quest.
-WILD requires peace of mind. You can't WILD when you had a hard day and you're really tired. You better just get your sleep.
-Also your head has to be a bit empty, because if there is too much on your mind (work, school, relationship trouble, etc.) you will easily drift of.
-A preliminary step can be to practice some meditation, for increasing your focus and emptying your head.
What personally works for me is the following, and it will probably keep you from staying awake and also will prevent you from falling asleep. Do a typical relaxation exercise (like focus on your toes, tense your toe muscles while breathing in, focus on the tension and then breath out while letting go, relax the muscles. Shift upwards, so do the same for your calves, thies, etc. etc. until you reach your head. Do the same for your neck, mouth, nose, eyes and forehead. You probably won't feel your body anymore. The one thing you can locate now is a spot inside your head, it 'is you'. You're fully in your head now.)
This exercise will completely relax your body (and even let it 'disappear'), while staying focussed.
For a succesfull WILD you need a curious mindset and just let things come to you.
The last thing I can say is, like with all things in life, if you think you fail at something and want to succeed, analyse your achilles' heel. What is your weakest link? Then work on that. It could be you're focus isn't strong enough, then work on that. It could be you don't empty your head enough, then work on that. Or it could be you don't relax enough... then... etc.
