I was on a car ride today, trying to LD and fall asleep at the same time. I never actually fell asleep thanks to my brother, who was blasting the radio, but I was, in the simplest terms, daydreaming. I was still aware of the music and everything, but I was 'dreaming' in my head. I was still attached to my body, but I could change things and the 'dream' never destabilized. If I were to do this until I fell asleep, would the dream continue on as lucid?
This happens to me multiple times when I watch the TV while on the bed, it occurs daily.
I have never really became aware of the fact that I was dreaming even though I was awake.
Yes daydreaming such as you were is usually pre-lucid dreaming. So if you were to continue on as you were you eventually stop noticing your outside environment and your daydream environment would become more and more vivid until you were actually fully in it. A key point to this is staying aware of your dream environment while this is happening so that when you actually do enter it fully you are lucid.
It's NON-REM dreams at stage 1 sleep or first few minutes of falling asleep...and no it won't continue because being NON-REM dreams it will break when it hits stage 2 like after 5 min and you get woken up by the noise. And if you go back to sleep you sleep through it and no dreams by that time a short nap has taken place.
I agree with imj. This sounds like a non-rem lucid dream. I get this kind of dream all the time when my timing is off for my WILD. Especially when I take Galantamine. For example, if I wake naturally (immediately after a midnight REM stage), take some GM, and immediately return to sleep, I can be stuck in this zone for 30 minutes or an hour. I will be in a light, daydream like sleep, with very vivid imagery. No matter what I do, I can't fully enter the dream. It never fully materializes. It is just very vivid and engrossing hallucinations while I am still aware of my body. Normally, this will continue until REM kicks in, at which point there will be a secondary transition with the traditional vibrations, sleep paralysis, ect. If I can ride it out, I can end up in a more vivid lucid dream.
Remember, you can be lucid in any stage of sleep. With practice, you can remain aware throughout your entire nights sleep. REM is obviously the most satisfying for dreaming, but the other stages offer interesting meditation and trance-induction opportunities.
When the big human brain falls asleep there is usually three brainwave stages. Alpha (relaxed) Theta (daydreamy) and Beta (asleep) You were in Theta. Some consider this a deep state of meditation or a hypnotic state. In this state one can experience non-REM dreams(including lucid) It is this state that WILD's can easily be attained. Can one slip into a REM lucid from this state? Depends on the circumstances.
Still good practice.
But actually dose it really matter? If you think being in that particular dream state will give you hope that you will be lucid just believe and you will. Forget the facts behind dreams and work with what you have found. Further asking whether it's possible or not will only create doubts because there will be different views in the end you get confused and think it's not possible. Too much facts on dreaming may make it very very difficult...best to find out yourself. I know that first hand...too brainy = No dreams & No lucids. I take back what I said about the other post about sleep stages and what not..it's just my own arrogance.
