i had a lucid just the other night with the tv on :P
Bright lights can suppress REM sleep, I believe: sunlight acts as a natural stimulant to wake people up, and the light emanating from a computer or T.V. screen can do the same thing to the body. Less REM sleep means a decreased likeliness to dream and remember those dream, which also means less likelihood of remembering a lucid. Not to say there haven't been cases where people have had lucid dreams; watching T.V. just makes it harder.
You dont need the tv on when your asleep anyways so it shouldnt matter ;)
I fall asleep with my tv on almost every night...I either set it on the sleep timer, or I keep it on all night with the volume all the way down
I just keep it on for light
lol i do the same and i dont have a working lamp in my room and i do keep the volume all the way down but i understand its just hard for me to sleep without it because im used to it i keep thinking of an old man walking out of my closet.. gotta be ready man. Ima get em...
The sounds of the television always take control of my dreams, and render me unable to become lucid.
Yes it is possible to get lucid with the tv on. Its a lot harder though and really there isn't any reason to be having the tv on as your going to sleep anyways (its not like your going to be watching it while your asleep) so this is kinda an odd discussion :p I guess if you want a night light or something I would get why your asking this question but if you need a night light then....use a night light! :P A tv is unessesary and counterproductive.
... I've never heard of people who need to sleep with the tv on. The last time I fell asleep with the tv on was when I was hugging my dog while he was sleeping and I fell asleep. I woke up with him curled up against me with his head snuggled into my neck. What a sweetie :cheeky:
BUT ANYWAY
why oh why?!?
I can't sleep with the T.V. on... Especially with that buzzing, high-frequency noise coming from certain ones! That's enough to drive me crazy! :bang:
I have an old man living in my closet, too. I know he's there because he keeps stealing all my socks. I think he must have a peg leg, because he only takes one sock from of each pair.
TV before going to bed is bad because it stimulates you. But that doesn't stop me cuz I can't go to bed without watching TV first. Also, I can't sleep without my fan. I hate the quiet now cuz I've been using a fan every night for about 4 years now. Without mu fan, I hear this buzzing noise in my ear and it drives me crazy.
Free your mind
Eat your television
What is the volume is 0 and there is no buzzing sound coming from the tv.
Hes probably used to falling asleep with the tv on. I have always fallen asleep with the tv or a movie on, it helped me goto bed, my daughter loves watching a princess movie as she goes to bed too. But since ive been interested in LDing i find having the tv on more of a distraction, and i always get up to shut it off b4 my eyes close :)
Yeah you can get white noise on your ipod ;)
This is a bit off topic, but some nights the ticking of a clock in my living room seems impossibly loud. It will keep me from sleeping. Other nights, I can't hear it at all. Is this 100% subjective? Do factors such as temperature and humidity alter sound transference enough to notice something like this?
I think it just depends on how much your attention is drawn towards it. We have a clock in our family room and if I sleep out there and I notice the sound right when I start to sleep, then it will take me awhile to get the noise out of my head. I have to draw my attention towards something else like my breathing. Usually I'll just bring my fan out there and it will overpower the ticking noise of the clock.
I don't think lights or TV or any electronic device is an issue. I sleep with my lights on and my computer monitor is sometimes on too when I fall asleep. My brother also does the same thing and he lucid dreams fine, in fact wouldn't that improve lucid dreaming to some extent? If you hear a show in your dream you can recognize that you left your TV on and figure out you're dreaming. Also I thought I read a technique before that encourages you to wear a head set with storm noises in the background. The idea is it will create a storm in your dream to make you realize that the storm is from your head set and you lucid dream.
Also I guess it varies from person to person, although I disagree with this completely.
when its silent in my room i think about stuff to much and if its dark in there to i feel like something is ethier infront of me or behind me. by the way has anyone had there tv on with the volume at "2" and woken up and could hear it o.o? then when i got up and moved around i went back in there and couldn't hear it
Lose the TV. It is an unwanted light source. Light is the enemy of sleep. Millions of years of evolving DNA have stamped 'sleep (ergo dream) when it is dark' in our big human brain. Trust your highly evolved instincts. :shadewink:
Every website you go on that tells how to get a good night sleep will tell you not to watch TV before bed because it gets your mind to awake. I think it just depends on the person. But id you want to go to bed quick, you should have a quiet period before bed time so you can get your mind at peace. You should write all your thoughts down ina notebook so that way you dont think about all the stuff you did that day or what you want to do the next day. That way you wont lay down to sleep and the end up awake for like an hour because your mind is racing. But that hasn't happened to me in a while and usually only happens when I'm stressed. Oh wait, I am stressed. Great:P
I guess this is one reason I rarely have lucid dreams LOL. I always sleep with my TV on out of habit but I also get..."paranoid" if I don't have it to light my room and to listen to when I doze off or wake up in the middle of then night. I'm not necessarily afraid of the dark but without it, I end up mistaking every little sound for something like a ghost and I get freaked out. Sad for someone my age but oh well.
The few times I've become lucid though was thanks to my TV. I had a false awakening and noticed my television was off so I was immediately like "Oh my god I am dreaming!"
LOL is this conversation still going on :P Its pretty simple. If you are able to have ld's with the tv on, then keep it on. If the tv distracts you, then keep it off. PROBLEM SOLVED! :P
so who watches Man.Vs.Food? anyone .. anyone..
