I was thinking of a lucid dreaming video game i could make...

Tell me if this is a good idea...
Its 3D, first person, it starts when you are in bed. Groggily, you stand up, and soon realize that everything is not as it seems. You are moving by yourself around your room, the player cannot control anything, until he/she spots at least one dreamsign and presses a key. The player can then move around the level and try to find all the dreamsigns they can.
I dream about playing video games sometimes, so this may work, if you dream you are playing a game where there are many dreamsigns present...
And concept art is easy... My own dreams!

Lucid dream gm idea is awesome. The only thing I would suggest is free will with in the game dreamscape like grand theft accept you explore the universe at least several dimensions deep.

That would be so hard to make :D

Still think it's a good idea.

I have started the concept sketches. I am thinking that until you "gain lucidity" by recognizing a dream sign, your vision is a little blurred and is only a quarter of the screen, then once you become lucid, the view fills the screen and becomes more vivid, like an LD. Tell me what you think!

How about a dream inside a game inside a dream thats inside the game..... WE NEED TO GO DEEPER!!!

If any engine was to be used for a landscape which described dreaming, I think this'd have to be it ;)

Good luck doing it yourself, man. There would be so many things you'd have to implement, especially when it comes to teleporting or changing the dreamscape.

The teleporting is easy. The difficult part is making each play a different "dream", so mixing different objects together sortof randomly.
One thing i was thinking of is a false awakining, waking up in a room, opening the door and seeing a jungle outside. But then on another false awakining, a desert.
I will figure something out i hope... :D

Im currently using Unity 3D, mostly because i could potentially make this game as an in-browser game, which is one of its capibilitys. Plus Unity is free, without royalies or profit sharing, if i was to sell it for iPhone or android or something like that.

I was thinking the Crytek engine myself. But I'm not sure if that's what it's called.

Cry Engine 3 seems like a good idea, but you need to be a REALLY good 3d artist to make the game look good. Which im not lol
