Could I use this for inducing a lucid dream?

Sometimes, when I'm tired and I close my eyes, I don't exactly go to sleep, but I seem to have some sort of dream. For example, once I closed my eyes on the bus, and after about ten minutes, I was kind of in one of those "dreams." Curious, I tried to feel something, but I couldn't feel a thing. However, I could hear sound, but it felt distant, like a song that's stuck in your head. It felt more like a daydream then a dream, but it was too vivid and real for a daydream. Often I forget where I am in real life in these things. Has anyone ever had a similar experience, and could I use this to my advantage in lucid dreaming?

I think you are just very very good at zoning out and daydreaming. What you described was basically a day dream, but with a lot more vividness. What I mean is you are day dreaming, but you are able to zone yourself out more and forget the world better than other people when they day dream.

I can sort of do what you said, but it never really lasts that long, and its not as deep.

Sorry, but I can't really see how this can be better than other methods. Stick to what works for you, or if you really want, take some time out to experiment with it.

The brain transitions from Alpha (relaxed) to Theta (daydreaming) to Delta (deep sleep) during the sleep process. You were in a Theta brainwave state. In this state you can have non-REM dreams. This is an excellent starting point to go lucid. While this LD would be, by constraints, a short one... it can be accomplished.

It can be accomplished? Wow, well I never said I was an expert, but I didn't know you could technically fall asleep and dream while in class or on a bus.

Well, in the stages of sleep, there is a point where your mind literally checks to see if you are in a proper environment or safe to fall asleep
sometimes this fails though
when I fall asleep and I experience dreams but I am still awake, you know when your thoughts shift from random things, and then you can't remember what you were just thinking of? it was probably something like that
I doubt you were actually in a sleep phase yet, but you were probably deep in a daydream
I use these little thoughts (when I'm drifting to sleep) before bed to help me get lucid, by changing my train of thought to lucidity, then letting it drift again

So theoretically I could use this. I tried it tonight, but I just fell asleep. I did have a lucid dream, though, but I doubt it had anything to do with it.
