Problems with DEILD
Last night, I had 3 lucids, all of which were short, but one of which was the most clear and the coolest I ever had! (Not that I've had many...) They were all DILD. I tried to DEILD several times too, but nothing happened. I didn't feel SP, I still don't know what it's supposed to feel like. At one point, as my imagination was running its course, I could almost see someone doing things without my thinking it for him. Well, not "see" exactly, it was all thinking and not visual, very hard to explain... anyway, every time I got impatient after about 2 minutes and started to move around. Is there something I'm missing here - do I literally just do nothing to perform a DEILD?

DEILD just takes some practice. When you wake up from a dream don't move at all, don't even open your eyes. Just repeat something in your head like, "I am dreaming." With some practice you will be able to have DEILD's quite easily.

I thought I did a DEILD last night, but it was a false awakening :cheeky: I saw a bunch of weird colours and heard strange noises, but in the end it just woke me up. Anyway thanks for the advice, I'll try the mantra tonight.

With DEILDs it helps (for me at least) to picture the dream you just came from, and imagine yourself being back in that dream. You have to try to remember exactly how you were/felt at the end of the dream, which makes it a lot easier to propel yourself into your dream. It's best to find the way that works for you, but with me it seems like i can always tell i'm in a dream at the last second. I know what it feels like when the dream is "fading" and that snaps me into lucidity for the last 3 seconds of the dream. Then it's as easy as remembering not to move at all, not even opening your eyes, so you can just hop right back into your dream.
I would say that inbetween dreams for a DEILD i am at about 20% consciousness, 100% being completely awake and aware (like I am now) and 0% being sound asleep.
One more note: Sleep paralysis is actually a very good thing here. It doesn't allow you to move, so all you have to do is remember not to open your eyes or try to speak out loud. It's not very scary when you wake up into sleep paralysis when compared to going into SP from a conscious state (as in WILDs, IMO)

@Burke, I don't know what SP feels like and I don't feel it when I wake up. Also I find it hard to remember not to move around when I wake up, and I'm not experienced enough to recognize when a dream is ending. The best I can do is think about this as I'm falling asleep, hopefully I'll remember...

Its all different to everybody, some are best at DILD, some WILD. The thing im best at are DEILD. In fact, my first lucid was using the deild technique. Usually when i perform this correct, i just roll right out of my body after hitting what feels like heavy waves of SP. The key is, not to move, not even open your eyes. This can take some practice at first. Seems to me like youre a DILD expert!! Lol, I myself have difficulty realizing that im dreaming. Just keep practicing, and im sure in time youll DEILD like nothin. But remember, Lucid dreaming takes alot of effort and time. It took me 3 months of starting this practice to get my first lucid.

I felt SP for the first time last night during a DEILD attempt! I was very startled and I snapped myself out of it before a dream could form. I was hoping I'd get out of bed as a false awakening, but I was actually breaking the SP. Now I know what to expect, at least!

I think - and I might be wrong - that on occasions, because I've had a clear idea of what SP and HHs are supposed to be like through reading lots, I've actually experienced "false" HHs and SP in what was actually a dream.
