I have this app on my android that can track down my Rem cycle. ( these are my rem cycles: 1:40 - to 1:55 2:55-3:30 3:45- 3:55 4:30- 5:01.). ok so what can i do, knowing my rem cycle. like I know I can wild, but what time do you think I should wake up (based on my Rem Cycle). And also how long do you think i should stay up for.
It might just be misinformed me, but I thought REM cycles were after every hour of sleep, and they increased in length as the night went on, like one hour of sleep, then 15mins REM, hour of sleep, 20mins REM, hour, 40mins REM, hour, one hour of REM, then you wake up by then.
Basically, whenever you wake up in the night, that's after one hour of sleep and REM. So if you went to sleep at midnight, and woke up at 1:15, you had one hour of sleep and 15mins of REM.
If these REM cycles are true and you want to use them to your advantage, wake up during one.
The app i used to find my data says to wait a week before it can accurately tell you your rem cycle. These times might be off. But about waking up during my rem cycle: what do yoilu do after that?
I would be inclined to think these REM cycles are a bit off, so yeah, keep testing for the week.
What most people do is WBTB, where you get up and do stuff, but the main goal is to wake up your mind, specifically your logic center. Then you go back to sleep INTO a REM cycle, straight into a dream, with a wakened and alert mind, making it easier to LD.
You could also try DEILD, which means having an alarm which does not require you to turn it off. When you wake up, you need to lay perfectly still, not even moving your eyes, (some people have moved a bit and still had success). Then try to fall back to sleep again but staying as awake as you can, otherwise you just fall back asleep.
Wake at 4:00am, read through your dream journal for a few minutes, focus your intention on becoming lucid, then return to sleep and Prepare For Liftoff!!
It is my understanding that REM cycles every 100 minutes or so with dreams gradually increasing in intensity through the night. I am not sure where you are getting this data.
^^ Well yeah, that's what the data shows, it's just more precise. The weird one though is 3:45 to 3:55??!! Wonder why so short? The ones before and after it are both close to a half hour. Maybe you woke up from that one? Yeah, probably best to keep getting data for a good week or so and find your optimal times. Wake during one of the later (longer) REM periods after getting 4 1/2 to 6 hours sleep - try to wake right near the beginning of the REM period if you can, and practice WILD technique. Or DEILD, which is like a modified WILD.

Yes, that's the generic info, but it's going to be a little different for each of us - even different for one person on different nights I assume. Apparently he's found the actual times for his.
What I'm curious about is, how is an Android app able to pinpoint when you're in REM?
it uses the accelerometer to check for movements in your bed. if you do not move for a specific amount of time, it assumes your in rem.Quote:

just set alarms for around these times, like others said, it should be relatively easy for you to get some weird results.b
