Dream characters are conspiring against me!

I had a lucid dream breakthrough last night.

I was at a wake of a person that had died that I did not know. Also at the wake were people that I did not know, but there was a friend there that I have know for 15 years. In the dream I kept asking myself "Is this real?". I was pretty convinced in the dream that it was not. Then I asked my friend in the dream if it was real and she said "Yes, of course it is real". After that I believed that it was real.

Part of the reason I think that I was not able to realize in my dream that it was NOT real was that the dream of the wake was part of another dream that I was removed from. It felt like a dream that was layered, a deeper dream state.

My question is, how do you ignore the input of other dream characters that conspire to make you believe that the dream is real?

This is because that is the response you would expect in real life, so your brain will re-enact this by telling you this is real.
My advice, go over it in your head a few times before bed, it probably won't happen again.

Before you ask someone else if it is a dream, do a reality check and know for sure first.

I would not advise talking to a dream character while lucid. The process of speech is abstract, requires frontal lobe brain activity, and therefore is counter-productive to the lucid dream experience. Sometimes they talk to you, but I would never respond ( I say never but even I get sucked into talking to a few)
