How do you fall asleep while doing the MILD?

Hello everybody. From what I've read on this site, and from a few articles around the web, for the MILD to be most effective you need it to be the last thing on your mind. I was also reading an article on the subconscious mind and how you can give it something to process during the night by saying it (basically a mantra) until you fall asleep. IE: "I will wake up in a good mood." Or something like that, similar to the MILD.

What I don't understand is, how am I supposed to fall asleep while consciously thinking about my mantra? I mean, is it even possible to fall asleep while consciously thinking of something? Most of the time when I attempt a MILD I do the technique for 5-10 minutes then go to sleep, but I have other random thoughts that pop up after I stop saying my mantra in my head.

For me, saying the mantra until falling asleep means the following: I start saying my mantra when I notice that I'm tired enough to fall asleep. When the time is right, I tell myself "I'm dreaming" over and over in my head (while visualizing myself getting lucid and truly believing in it) and when my thoughts go elsewhere, I focus on it again. After about 10-15 minutes I usually just pass out (while laying in my regular sleeping position). The key is to not worry about falling asleep while saying your mantra. Let it just come naturally :)
If you would fall asleep while repeating it consciously it would be basically a WILD.

Do you have a decent success rate?

Idly daydream once I feel my intention is set and focus on how comfy I feel, that usually sends me off. Sometimes I repeat a mantra with each breath and feel myself feel more and more relaxed until I drift into unconsciousness.

i start with just the mantra,then when i fell tierd enough i start visulazing,and with visulazing i don't have any problem sleeping

I haven't done this for a while but normally it depends on my mood (If you want a success rate, mine was about 70%)

I don't repeat a mantra however sometimes I visualize seeing the words 'You are dreaming' on a billboard as I drift off to sleep. We visualize and dream in the same section of our big human brain... the secondary visual cortices. Words are abstract concepts to our brains so I say visualize your mantra!

That sounds interesting. Does that work well for you? Could I substitute the dream visualization in a MILD for that instead?

On a related note, I always visualise when I MILD, anyone who thinks the sole basis of MILD is the use of mantras hasn't gone back to the original Laberge technique. The importance is seeing and feeling your lucid dream as a future event. Everything else (mantras etc.) is secondary to imagining (as Faceonmars said, your brain interprets your imaginings as actual dreams, why I believe that MILD is the most powerful technique) that lucidity as something you will achieve tonight.

is it better to say your mantra out loud or just think about it?
