Having a little bit of trouble..

Let me start at the beginning.
3 weeks ago i learnt about lucidity and dream control, i obsessed over it and learnt as much as possible, by last week i had my first lucid dream ( a fluke i must admit)

Now i have a few problems:

1.When i try to keep a thought like in a MILD i cant get to bed because im thinking to hard about something.
2.Sometimes i try to let my mind flow so i can enter a dream(no such luck)
3.Reality checks are hard for me, i am far to busy to remember to do one! i have written on my hand and still not checked?

Any suggestions...........

When you MILD, don't obsess over your intention. Just plant the idea firmly in your mind, picture yourself becoming lucid, and then let it go and fall asleep. We are really good at remembering to do things. Imagine it being just like remembering to do any other task.

If you are having a hard time remembering to do reality checks, try an alarm. Set your watch or cell phone to beep every hour or two.

If you are interested, there are some exercises you can do to strengthen your prospective memory. It might help with both your problems.

To add to what robot butler said, I don't attempt to envision the dream setting I just think about it. For example I will spend roughly 15 minutes attempting to think about the setting. Usually I think about a river which triggers awareness when water comes up in a dream.

When we visualize we use the same area of our brain as when we dream... the secondary visual cortex. Instead of thinking about abstract words, that utilize frontal lobe activity, try visualizing a relaxing scene. You can even visualize seeing the words 'I Am Dreaming' on a road sign. Anyhoo, just a thought.
