NEED HELP! unsuccessful SP inducing

Sorry for my broken English, not a native speaker.

I've had 3 OBEs so far and I find it is the best having OBEs/LD through SP because when I'm in SP, it is easier for me to lift my astral body. SP is really a key to my OBE.

The problem is I'm having a hard time inducing SP deliberately recently. I try lying on the bed very still and focusing my mind to become very quiet. I can't get pass the state where my body starts to feel numb and weightless and there's this "Eeeeee" sound (Shellshock effect sound) starts to ring inside my head but that's that. an hour passes and nothing happens, I don't fall asleep, I don't wake up in SP.

Any suggestions? Thank you.

Make sure you are doing this during a REM sleep cycle. Sleep Paralysis accompanies REM sleep. Try in the early morning hours, after 4 or 5 hours of sleep, or some time you know you normally have vivid dreams.

Thank you Robot_Bulter. I've tried inducing SP during REM sleep cycle many many times but it didn't work so well.

This is tricky because if i focus, I'll be more likely to stay awake, an (or few) hours later, I'm becoming too tired and I let my mind wanders and then I completely sleep both physically and mentally. It's frustrating.

The previous 3 OBEs happened when I woke up in the involuntary SP. It was incidental. Only if I could induce SP at will...

It is hard to find the right balance. Too relaxed, and you fall asleep. Too focused, and you lie there all night with insomnia. Instead of focusing on sleep paralysis as your goal, try focusing on the dream as the goal. I can only WILD if I direct my attention away from my body, forgetting it even exists. Trying to catch sleep paralysis puts too much attention on my body. I will never space out enough to dream.

Oh! that's new. I'll try not to worry about my body next time I induce LD/OBE. Thank you.

If RobotButler's advice doesn't work for you I'd suggest you that you wait for your entire body to feel numb and then try focus on that feeling of floating downwards. The feeling will get stronger but if not, do an examination of your limbs quickly then try again.

I've tried inducing SP again and again after I talked with Robot, but no luck. T.T

I'll try your method then since my body easily gets either numb or weightless after 5 minutes of focusing.

Make sure to pace yourself. Let yourself sink then check on your body to level out then sink again, keep doing this and you will succeed. Also lengthen the amount time you spend focusing on floating downwards after each examination.

When doing this, patience is your biggest friend, as it can take some time until you fully understand how this is done.

The technique I suggested can be quite annoying as there is a high chance that you will fall asleep - so if you can remind yourself every minute or so, of what you are trying to accomplish, things then become much easier to handle.

Try mentally shouting out something like, "I'm aware!" and remember that this isn't a race, it's okay to fall asleep. Don't treat it like a failure, just try again until you get it right. :)

Tried it yesterday, had a small feeling that I'm sinking backwards.

Will try again tonight. If I reach the point that the sinking feeling is really intense, what do I do next?

If you can't induce sleep paralysis by focussing on the sensation of falling wait for hypnagogic imagery to appear watch it for a while, (not too long though), and try again. It has to work. Also look slightly upwards as you exhale and feel the falling sensation. I have found that by looking upwards the sensation was immediately amplified.

Once sleep paralysis has been achieved, all you need to do is to repeat your previous actions.

Now before you go ahead and focus on sensations again just rest in sleep paralysis for a while.

So you need to relax yourself even further. You can accomplish this by mentally repeating something like "relax deeper" or "relax further". Every time you say this phrase, try and actually feel yourself sinking deeper and deeper, (don't repeat the phrase again until you have felt yourself sink deeper). Also, try and synchronize the phrase you use with your breathing. As you say "relax", breathe in, and as you say "deeper", breathe out. Then allow yourself to pause for about 3-4 seconds before breathing in again, (try not to count the seconds or you will fall asleep). Remember to be aware of this pause or you might fall asleep. Just keep repeating this for a while and stop for a minute then repeat.

Eventually you will come to a point where you feel a surge of energy trying to take over your body, (it will feel like you are falling asleep). I think this happens if you don't visualize something so when you get to this point, you can either mentally repeat "I'm AWARE!" three times to go back to where you were just before this feeling, or you can visualize yourself being lucid in a dream.. perhaps doing a reality check and just let go of everything you have left.

I've posted much of this in other threads as well, though I have modified some of it to fit the way I do my WILDs now. The changes are minor though.

The above is what I do to get into SP and beyond. Tailor it to what suits you best. Also, if You can reach SP without putting any focus on physical sensations that would be great too.

Thank you for the insight. I haven't ever seen any HI though so I'll be sticking with the falling sensation after my body gets numb and weightless. I'm getting better and used to this practice now. I'll be practicing this sinking method more tonight.

I havnen't paid close attention to this energy trying to take control of the body you mentioned. When I was awake in SP, i was like laying down on the bed, meditating to relax my mind and then I 'blacked out' for few seconds and then I woke up in SP. It was incidental.

i think this method has to work better since you follow and become aware of everything that's happening.

Pulled this up, out of a thread I was just reading and thought it may be of use to you if you are having trouble staying aware.

You don't have to lie on your back. Yesterday I had two WILDs from lying on my left side. I've heard that it's easier to be sleep paralysed when lying on back, but personally I don't think your sleeping position matters. So, lie however you want, and relax.



I wake up after 4-6 hours of sleep. After about five minutes I return to my bed. I start my WILD attempt with lying on my back, because it's the most comfortable position in my opinion. Soon I'll start to see swirling colours, so I alternate between watching them and visualising things. Sometimes I just let my mind wander. This is where I usually fail my attempt. It's important to remind myself to not go completely unconscious.

After a while, I'll hit SP right away, or feel a strong urge to roll over. I've found out that it doesn't hurt my WILD attempt if I do so, and sometimes the sleep paralysis happen very shortly after I've been rolling over to my side. For me, sleep paralysis feels like strong vibrations, and then I'll quickly transition into a dream.

It takes some training to be successful with WILDs, but just keep on practising! Good luck! :)

So I was going to reply to your thread (again):

Concerning the energy that you eventually feel, you won't have to pay attention to it or feel for it. It is very invasive and will find you while you are focussing on staying in sleep paralysis.

If you keep focussing on the sensation of falling backwards while in sleep paralysis, this feeling will, undoubtedly, come over you.*

I don't think you will feel the energy if you do a WBTB as everything happens so quickly so don't worry if you can't feel it. So far I have only felt it when doing nighttime WILDs which are ridiculously hard to do (which is only when I don't exercise).

I have a theory that may clear things up concerning "the energy" I keep talking about. What I think it might be, is the final flood of melatonin that is supposed to knock me into a deeper sleep. I have though, managed to replicate this sensation more than once in every nighttime WILD I have done.

try the FILD - finger induced lucid dream , it worked wonders for me back in the day when I was a beginner. Its best to wake up to something 5-6 hours after you fell asleep and practise realizing you are awake without moving a muscle, or opening your eyes. the second you realize it and you havent moved try tapping a piano with a finger of yours, but dont actually move your finger, just pretend you are doing the motion. within 15 seconds, I am in SP, and 15 seconds later if I open my eyes after i feel my body fall asleep and the vibrations finish TA DA - in a dream.

this worked for me, because I lived at home and often awoke in the middle of the night, or perhaps I set my internal alarm to wake me up after a few hours of sleep.
For you, you could use some sort of alarm that just goes off once without needing it to be pushed, and you can train your body that every time you hear that alarm to just be concious and asleep still not moving. Its kind of like tricking your body into thinking you never woke up, if you dont get any sensations of wakefulness. a vibrating alarm would work too, or maybe some cool finger alarm which turns off by a simple click - no work on your part.

this is a no fail for me.. just gotta train yourself to realize you are awake in your bed before moving with or without the help of an external apparatus !
