Be Aware of Your Nose

Ok I had a fun idea inspired by dave1701. You know how all day long, you can see your nose in your peripheral vision, or especially if you look down and crossed-eyed at it? Well I'm not sure if I have ever seen my nose like that in an LD. I just suddenly wondered if that is one reason why some LDs are sooo vivid and clear. Not the only reason, just one possible reason. When my schnoz isn't impairing my vision (like if I push it down IRL), I have a pretty nice flat-screen panoramic view of the world.

Soooo, I thought it would be cool to do RCs throughout the day, being aware of my nose, to see if it would make a debut in an LD.

Just a thought.

I've never given that much thought. You must have a particularly small schnoz indeed, if you can push it down out of your view, in real life.

I'll see if I can see my nose next time I lucid dream.

It's average size I guess (just really flexible)

Women have smaller noses than men.

This is an interesting thought. Nearly everybody takes their noses for granted. What about those poor people without a nose? (michael jackson)

I don't remember ever seeing my nose in a dream, but I'll check it out when I get the chance :P

It still surprises me to think that you'd be able to push it out of sight.

It seems like that would be anatomically impossible. ._.

^^ in all fairness, I saw a bit of my fingers when I did that, but less fingers than nose when I didn't

I have quite a big honker, but I've never found it to get in the way of my vision, but if I pay attention it certainly is visible. I think if you started doing this as some sort of RC it might be unsuccessful unless combined with another form of awareness/RC simultaneously. Chances are if in a dream you remember to look at your nose, you're going to remember to RC and create some external awareness which will easily tell you if you're dreaming :)

I think as a reminder to RC or use awareness, it's a great idea! :D

I *think* I understand.

Please elaborate.

To me, remembering to check if my nose was on my face or not would be enough to spark the awareness and thought that leads to realising I'm dreaming - likely regardless if my nose was there nor now> I suppose it could also be shaped by your expectation and if you were expecting your nose to be there it likely would :)

I think it's also important to remember in terms of the clarity of the dreams that you're not limited by the physical capabilities of your eyes. Things might seem clearer because, well they probably are :P I know for certain I can see things in greater detail and higher clarity than my waking eyes ever could! :)

I doubt that's why LDs are clearer though, in dreams you don't have eyes let alone a nose.

And im pretty sure i'd look a prat walking down the street cross-eyed lol.

I never thought about it like that, makes sense. Don't have to worry about eyelids, eyelashes, noses, peripheral vision, dry lenses, astigmatism, eye boogers etc getting in the way!

Well constantly being aware of something, is the best way to get LD's at all =D but it's pretty difficult to be mindful all day D= though this could be good, because it's sort of a tangible thing to be mindful of.

True true.. I do have the unfortunate disposition, however, of having a hard time trimming my IRL body away from my lucid one. I'm starting to think that's why the mirror is such a good tool for me, in terms of stabilizing lucidity. I always look the same, except for my eyes.

I may have a hard time with this...I sometimes look different in my dreams, and frequently I change perspective, like the way camera angles change in a movie. I end up in someone else's body, and looking out at myself sometimes through their eyes.

Still, gonna try.

It might not really have been that great of an idea, just one of things that I just suddenly became aware of, and wondered how it would affect our daily RCs, and subsequent LDs.

More than likely, like Merlin said, it would be more of a sparker of lucidity. Next time I LD, I'll let y'all know if I can see my nose :P

If I ever finally get another lucid I will definitely try this.

I was aware of my nose for at least 500 miles of my trip.

Should I concentration more on the road? :)

This is a cool idea. I wonder if something similar could be done for people who wear glasses. I wear mine once in a while, so it wouldn't work so well on me. But for people who put them on in the morning and take them off at night it might work. You can always see the rims and whatnot in you peripheral vision, but you do forget they're there.. I'm going to give the nose thing a try though, if it works I'll let you know! :)

I wear glasses sometimes too, and you're right, I always get used to the rims being there.

Still don't know if anything could come from this, but I like that it's got folks thinking. :)

What this thread has got me thinking about is how much I am now aware of my nose in waking life. It could be years before I become aware of it in a dream.

Still, I'm trying.

Did I ever mention that I can wiggle my nose? Just like a rabbit.
