ADA - All Day Awareness and the DILD

Hello everyone, this was posted quite some time ago by another person whom I cannot remember. Just bringing it back into light for anyone who is interested in DILD and would like to become more successful with it :)

All day awareness is the pinnacle of lucid dreaming once mastered. You can make every dream of every night a lucid dream through this method. Too good to be true? Allow me to explain.

The basis of this technique is learning to notice/acknowledge every little detail throughout the day; in periods. What I mean by this is taking notice of your lungs expanding as you take a deep breathe, feel the metal door knob as you reach to open the door, watch the way the sunlight creates and casts shadows, notice the different smells and sounds you acknowledge during the course of the day. These are just a few of the millions of details we take for granted.

The key? Do not try to focus on these ALL DAY LONG literally. You will wear you brain out. Take it slow, start off doing 5 minute periods through the day when you find the time is right. Just really sit down and take in every detail of your surroundings. This habit will transfer into your dreams, similar to a reality check, however with this method the dream itself will become a dream sign, hence making every dream lucid. Slowly increase the intervals, and the key to this method is PRACTICE and PERSISTENCE. You must stick with it. This technique will make you more aware of the oddities that occur in dreams (without the actual presence of a dream sign). It will also greatly increase the vividness of your dreams (and I mean drastically!).

I have been at it for a little over a week and achieved 4 lucid dreams through DILD. 2 of them I didnt event have to perform a reality check! I just suspected and knew it was a dream. It is a very powerful technique that I just wanted to bring back up for anyone struggling with DILD or not having luck with the other primary methods :)

The ADA skills also help after you become lucid to stabilize the dream. Plus I think just being aware during the day will help you experience life more. But if you have had over 3000 LDs, why do think it was this technique that caused those DILDs?

Ah yes it was kingyoshi. I could not remember the name lol.

And to cytotoxicT, which the DILDs? The 4 I said I've had in the week practicing ADA? I almost never have DILDs. Of the many lucid I've had before trying this technique I would say maybe 20 of them were DILDs max, and thats over the course of about 4 years. So the fact that I have had 4 DILDs in a week while practicing ADA leads me to believe that it has caused them due to the relatively low frequency of DILDs I have had in the past.

I think we all miss KingYoshi :( But it's a great technique, I have been practicing ever since the tutorial first came out, and it has given me loads of lucids. Definitely something worth recommending!

One thing to add though. In the periods that you do not use hyperawareness, it is best to stay aware as much as you can. Even if it's only 1 or 2 senses, being aware all of the time IS usefull. But I agree woth everything else that has been said.

I'm gonna give this a go - even if it doesn't give me a lucid it strikes me as a very nice thing to just do as much as possible, appreciating your surroundings.

Maybe I've been kind of wearing my brain out a bit by trying to be more aware than necessary. It's not easy. Sometimes I think, "Wake up!" I try to pay attention to something as simple as my legs moving, but then I drone and catch myself doing that. For the past 12 days I haven't had an LD. I did way better the first month. (I had four then, I've only had one this month.) I'll try not to overdo the awareness.

What happened to King Yoshi, incidentally?

I am getting back into lucid dreaming and I am glad I have read your summary of the ADA tutorial. I think I will take a look at the original tutorial too. Like cytotoxicT wrote, practicing awareness benefits one in waking life as well so I think this is good advice. :)

I look forward to having lucid dreams again, non-lucid dreams aren't as fun.

Ill take a shot at explaining it. Dreams feel different than waking life. No matter how vivid the dream is, its still a dream. So once you start noticing every thing in waking life, every little detail then you will notice the differences in dreams. And every dream has differences from real life so you'll notice the differences much more if you know exactly how real life feels. So basically the dreams differences will let you know your dreaming right when you enter a dream.

I seem to be the only finding it isnt working for me.... :(
ive been trying it for the past week, with no Lucid dreams, I havent even noticed any increased vividness, which is shame.

You aren't alone, I have been doing this technique for two weeks now and I have no LDs from it yet. I am still practicing, I will do it when I remember to throughout the day, but I set aside 10 minutes (while waiting to pick up my son from pre-school) to practice ADA.

That being said, I am having some interesting dreams attributed to this technique. Two nights ago I was dreaming I was at a friends house and there are four lights hanging in front of her closet, but one of them was oddly shaped and it caught my attention enough for me to walk up to it and inspect it as if I was doing ADA. Sadly I should have become lucid at this point but I continued on with the normal dream.

So I can confidently say it's doing something, just not full blown lucidity yet.
