      Lucid Dreaming iPhone App

      Hello everyone,

I'm just about finished with a lucid dreaming app for the iPhone that detects when you are in REM and gives you an audio cue to induce a lucid dream. I was wondering if there were any features that people would really like to see in this app?

      - Take tequila shots with a DC
      - Use the force
      - Teleport to dream castle by making a portal in dream

Sounds good, I would love to have an alarm and maybe even a graph that shows when you are in REM, when you are in Non REM and when you are awake (if that makes sence) How well does this app work? Maybe you could have another feature where it wakes you up at the right time for a DEILD / WILD.

These are just ideas. How much is this app and what is the name?

Well I haven't released it on the app store yet but I was thinking of pricing it at a $1. As for how well it works, so far I haven't gotten it working yet but the concept has been done before in the NovaDreamer. As of now there is a log file you can examine in CSV format which shows your sleep states but I imagine you were looking for something more user friendly, I doubt I will make a graph that shows your sleep states in the first version of the app though. I didn't actually plan this, but if you configure the settings properly you could use it as a DEILD or WILD alarm. Hopefully I should be done within a week or two.

Holy crap that sounds awesome! What is it called, and when do you think it will be released?
      And how does it work?...

As for features, some sort of tutorial about LDing in general in the app for new lucid dreamers?

Ok for some reason I wasn't getting these thread updates so sorry it took me a while to respond. I've been working on the app a lot the last couple of days and it does indeed work. The only problem I have is that I tend to pull headphones out of my ears in the middle of the night unconsciously. Also, it will work on both the iPod Touch and the iPhone. I haven't been able to test it as much as I would like to yet, but it has been consistently waking me up in the middle of REM dreams. I imagine, as with the REM dreamer or the novadreamer you will have to get used to the alarm part of the app. As of now I do not own an Android so it won't be released on the android market, sorry. As soon as I get someone else to test it I'll probably release it, since I'll be updating it regularly anyways so I can fix any latent bugs that show up. It works off the principle that during REM sleep you move considerably less than in NREM sleep and thus by analyzing accelerometer data you can make a very good guess as to when the user is in the center of REM sleep. I can attest to the fact that it does that very well, the times I have been able to test it it has woken me up right in the middle of a dream, thats why my recall has been so much better. The question is whether you can pick a good audio cue and train your subconscious to recognize that audio cue when you are dreaming.

      This sounds awesome!!!
Just a "way out there" thought, what if you took a pair of headphones and spliced a few LEDs in, then attached them to a mask? Then it would be like a Nova Dreamer in terms of how it triggers. If voltage (sound) was played through the wires to the LEDs, they should flash or turn on, right?
I dont even know xD but that is just something that i was thinking...
Definatly PM me when this is done, i would definatly buy it. OR beta test it... my ipod is jailbroken... so i can install ipa files and deb files.

Well actually that was something I was considering. You can pretend that audio is just any regular electrical signal so if you make a bunch of square signals and you cut open your earplugs and hook them up to LEDs you could totally pull that off, especially since I let the user pick any audio file. The reason I don't mention that is mostly because one of my main goals with this was to create a lucid dreaming device that didn't require any external fiddling or peripherals but that is definitely doable. It would probably just be a simple transistor circuit since the iPhone/iPod headphone output probably doesn't have too much current.

Yeah, thats exactly what i meant! Of course you would need to spice with headphones wire which is difficult :/
Sorry for going off topic a bit

Lol np, actually I'm pretty sure you can just cut open the headphones and there are one or two wires (not counting ground) which are directly proportional to the audio output in voltage. So you could literally just solder the earplug wire to your circuit.

If only it was that easy
Headphones wire has a colored coating so it doesnt short with the other wires in the same heat shrink. They need to be sanded very, very carefully to remove the coating to make them conductive and solderable. The problem is when you sand it, the wire frays and breaks.

Sorry I should have posted the release link here as well as on the main forum. Luckily you missed the week or so when it cost $2 and now its free for the holidays (or something). Here's the link: Dream Alarm for iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPod touch (3rd generation), iPod touch (4th generation) and iPad on the iTunes App Store. It's available for iPod, iPhone, and iPad and as soon as iTunes Connect opens up after the holidays I'll make sure to upload it so that people without iOS 5 can get it. Hope you enjoy it!

Dammit. I found this app before I had IOS 5 and when it was free... There any chance of it becoming free anytime soon? I'm only 15 so I don't have a credit card to buy it...
