Lightbulb Fomer Lucid Dreamer looking for advice

      Hi all,
About 8 years ago, when I was in high school I was really into lucid dreaming and now I want to get back into it FAST! I'd like to get fully lucid in 3-7 days (starting April 23rd which is my vacation). Back when I started lucid dreaming it was something I did on my own. At that time I was really into meditative states too so I don't remember having to use any mental cues at all, I was simply able to enter "the dream" with success. One of the things back then I tried was sleep deprivation techniques... such as sleeping 30 minutes every four to six hours.... which causes one to fall directly into rem but still gives the body enough time to rest. However, these days I don't think I can go all in on that because of work. I've also heard about the REMEE mask is this worth investing in? Previously, I had a lot of success wtih full or partial control of my dreaming at will, whenever I wanted without any kind of cueing... one thing I can say about then is that on rare occasion a "weakness" I had was stabilization... as in waking up...yet I was able to continue these dreams easily and continue to lucid dream. I would like to get back into lucid dreaming ASAP or I'm worried I will lose interest...also I have a 1 month break from work coming up... I'd like experienced posters on the board to give me some advice about how I can begin lucid dreaming NOW. I am not afraid, I had much experience and success as a lucid dreamer in high school, why be afraid as an adult?

Welcome to the forum. When people speak of 'being afraid' I can only assume it is a natural fear of death. I have found myself in a lucid dream wondering if I had died. Eventually that thought transformed into : If I am dead, this isn't too bad! Anyhoo, I use a technique of progressive muscle relaxation and visualization. While this helps I also believe that willing yourself to have a lucid is very important. It is interesting to me that you speak of being into meditative states when you were naturally lucid dreaming before, as I see lucid dreaming as a meditative and/or a hypnotic state. Good luck to you!

Totally agree with this. From the way you're talking about how much you want to get lucid dreaming as soon as possible, seems like this should be no problem. Also, make sure your dream recall is up to scratch, because if not, you might not even remember any lucids you have!

      Hi all,
Wow! Thanks for the replies! After just reading this stuff and thinking it over for a couple of days I'm proud to report I had the first dream I can remember in months! Now for the bad part! It was not a lucid dream! However, I wanted to report back to you all as I thought the dream was fairly interesting and maybe spawned by our discussion. I have to admit to myself perhaps that reading through these allowed me to get in the right mindset to remember the dream and attach significance to it in the waking world.
As in real life, things in the dream world often coincide with real life events. I have to tell you all I have things going on in my life related to success, of course, as most people do. What was intertesting about this dream was that throughout the dream I felt a prescence, as though I were aware of something watching, a bit like a serial killer would watch, and I believe this thing observing me was part of my subconscious...
I started of as a detailed history or backstory of random story facts in the dream world- these were things I don't wuite remember they could've been dreamed or not - all i remember is the history of mind constructing these facts before the dream. They were things like what classes I would take and where I would take them to complete a degree or something... and then my mind drew some conscious conclusions about what to do as if it was waking up... then I was back in the dream world as if I had completed those tasks already and I was on the way to work at my new job.
This is where it gets wierd... I decided to cross country ski to my job with a group of friend from work.
As we were cross country skiing to the college I worked for... the Ice keep breaking up and I could feel the malign prescence of my subconscious trying to foil me... the ice kept breaking up and my friends and I as were skiing began getting stuck in the cold water and swinning until we found a piece of ice to climb up that wouldn't break off... from here we entered a cave. Once we were in the cave it closed off and there was a single door in the cave that had a telephone on a small desk.
Everyone in the dream was anxious... chat was about surivival. The phone rang and one of my friends picked it up. This whole time I could feel the malign prescence in my dream... in my dream I believed it was a serial killer. He nodded as he listened to a voice on the phone and then he left the cave. I think me and my friend believed that he may have died because my other friend kept telling me "Not to go in there (the door)". I finally decided to open the door and when I did I realized it was a door into a hallway within my house. I felt the prescence even strgoner now, and this is when I woke up. Obvioiusly in my dream I was able to recognize the hallway and realize this was a dream.
Kind of interesting? It seems like a dream about trying to become lucid to me.... after thinking about it I definetly see my subconscious telling me not to try to have lucid dreams or it will "kill me". Bad subsconscious, trying to destroy the fabric of my dreamworld.
This was ahead of schedule "icebreaker" for me.

I know what you mean lol.
The very night I posted for the first time on DreamViews was the very first time I had a lucid dream that lasted several minutes while being completely realistic. Something like that just can't be a coincidence...

Lucid dreams are a balancing act between perceived reality and the collective unconscious. Only 'you' can stop a lucid dream from manifesting. A lucid dream is the closest thing we mortals have to a near death experience. It is a glimpse of the beyond for those who dare.

Well faceonmars you are VERY stanley kubrick about the whole thing . I think your suggestion may have influenced the shape of the dream in someway in my brain... whatever you may have done to my brain/thought process it seems to have worked! Since then, I have had fading dreams and remember vaguely, colors sounds, flashbacks. This week I am going to try more intensively to conjure up a new lucid dream. Perhaps become a wizard, always wanted to do that. An ultimate goal I have is to program computers inside my dreams.

it is an odd response from my mind.. to give me a non-lucid dream that I can remember many details in yet deny me a completely lucid dream. It makes me wonder is there some kind of "barrier" LDers break before becoming fully lucid? This is what my mind in the dream appears to be wanting me to believe since it will "kill me" if I take control of the dream...
