Does anyone else find DILDing to be difficult?

Ok, I'm pretty sure this is rare but only one of the 6 lucids I've had could be described as a DILD and it lasted about 30 seconds. The rest have been either WILD's or DEILD's. I did once has a dream which started with me successfully astral projecting but I don't believe that this counts. I think I've done more then enough awareness and reality check excercises which leads me to believe this to be a matter of my extraordinarily bad dream recall. What I'm interested in knowing is if anyone else has this same problem or better yet if anyone had it and how was it resolved. Thank you.

I have really sporadic recall. idk but if i were to recall a dream, i would remember being too tired to want to do a RC inside the dream or something was stopping me from wanting too. :( idk why. I think DEILDs/WILDs are best in terms of physically affecting the performance of a lucid.

Dilds are probably difficult because you cant remember dreams =/

All of my LD's have come from DILD's and the last DILD I had lasted for what felt like a long time, as for remembering as soon as my LD finished I woke up instead of going into different sleep stages, so I could remember almost all of it.

Dream recall is extremely important for having DILDs, you can try to improve it by trying to remember what you dreamed about in the morning, if there is nothing - write down in your dream journal that you cant remember, eventually you will begin to remember more and more fragments.
But yes I would address this problem first before anything, but it wouldnt hurt to try out some techniques as well.
I've also heard that a mantra before bed can help, such as "I will remember my dreams", or waking up in the middle of the night, just after a dream has ended.

I find it difficult in the sense that you have no direct control over inducing the dream. You can only find out whether you were sucessful or not after waking up. I've been using the DILD/MILD for a couple of years now with very little success (this may be down to low confidence as I have this mentality that LDing is too good to be true :cheeky:). But it also seems like the best method in terms of convenience as you need not lose any sleep...

I'm going to try WILD, as the other day I acidentally got SP after waking from a dream. I started to hear noises (bells ringing), so maybe that is better for me :)

A Dream Journal might raise your consciousness/awareness enough to help with DILD's. I, myself, use a small digital recorder and simply describe my dream to it. If it was interesting enough I will transcribe it into my actual journal. Good luck to you!

I think different techniques work differently for different people. I find DILDing to be rather difficult as well. That is why I use WILDing to attain lucidity. If you feel that you aren't having any success with DILDing, you should try a different technique.

Funny thing is that DILDing is not difficult at all..
Its quite easy, its just that its unstable for most people.. You can't really guarantee yourself a LD after a WBTB,
I find DEILD or FILD to be a much more.. reliable technique?
plus my DILDs are blurry :s

All of my LDs have been through DILD. Once I started keeping a dream journal my recall got a lot better, and I'm becoming more aware of the general "feel" of dreams. Also I've just started to read a few dreams from my journal and reminisce about what they felt like before I go to sleep, and the first night I did it I became lucid. So far WILD hasn't worked for me, but I guess its just one of those things that's different for everyone.

But the problem is that means shutting yourself away from most lucids. All lucid techniques can be grouped into WILD, DILD or hybrid techs. Also if I start becoming lucid during normal dreams, thats an excellent way of practicing expanding awareness and stabilization. In my WILDs and DEILDs I rarely need to stabalize for the first couple of minutes. However because of this, it becomes annoyingly hard to anticipate destabilization. If I become lucid in the middle of a dream, it should begin destabilizing quickly so I can try stabilizing techniques. Since I created this thread I've had a couple more DILDs so I'm begining to get it. :)
