Please Help! Am I Cut Out For Lucid Dreaming??

Hi Guys,

First of all, it's great to finally be a member here! :) I have been searching the forums for a couple of days and I have become absolutely amazed by the thought of lucid dreaming, however:

Is it possible that a person isn't cut out for it? :( I feel as though I am!

I am very open minded, I have good dream recall without keeping a journal, and I really really want to lucid dream, but my sleeping schedule is pants! I don't have a set schedule. I go to bed early hours of the morning, and sleep till 2-3PM. I'm a 20 year old student, currently in the holidays, so I'v been pretty lazy

Also, I ALWAYS wake up ever couple of hours. Every single night, without a doubt. I can't remember the last time I slept soundly through the night. Will me waking up every couple hours, hinder my ability to get lucid?

If not, what techniques would you recommend? I have been doing tonnes of reality checks hoping to DILD, and I have read that WILD is hard for beginners? What shall I do?

There's nobody who isn't able to lucid dream, and it sounds like you'll have a leg up on lots of newbies. :content: An open mind, good recall, and a strong desire to become lucid are all going to help you greatly. A consistent sleep schedule is nice, but not required. If you wake up several times throughout the night, use those opportunities to write down (or at least make note of so you can remember fully later) every dream that you can pull up with each time. Even if you have good recall without a journal, use one anyway. It'll drastically improve your chances of getting lucid no matter what your starting point is. I often wake up frequently as well and the more you take advantage of it the better your ability will be.

WILD is difficult for beginners, I would ignore it for now. Focus on just getting lucid at all first, and then work up from there. If you're doing reality checks then you're already on the right path, it'll happen eventually. If you're really motivated you should check out the DVA here too, there's usually a beginner class (as well as others focusing on various subjects) running to help out new lucid dreamers. :)

If you're interested in WILDs check out the class being taught by Sageous. WILD (Sageous) It's never too soon to start attempting WILDs because the attempts, even if they fail, can often lead to DILDs. Because of your frequent awakenings it might be a perfect fit for you.

The wakenings inbetween your sleep and dreams are probably at the end of your REM cycle, so the chance if you becoming lucid is not hindered.

RCing is not all about how much you do it, but why you are doing it. Do you take the time to actually question your reality or do you just do the RC and be done with it?

The last thing that will make your DILD chances greater is ADA, which stands for all day awareness. Search it in the bar above.

Everyone is cut out for lucid dreaming! It just takes some time and work...trust me..you will get lucid eventually! Waking up every couple hours can actually help you get lucid. Check out the WBTB technique. :)

You can use your awakenings during the night for a technique like DEILD. And, as others have already said, everyone can learn to LD, even though it could take a while. But with effort and determination you will definitely get there. Succes!
