Unhappy First lucid dream? I think....

So, this morning i had to wake up early because i was going out with my parents. Anyway.... i was ready while the weren't, so i ended up taking a nap. I read on a different forum to perform reality checks while you're awake so that you do it in your dreams as well. So i started to count my fingers recently every 2 hours or so because apparently when you're dreaming your hands often look weird or whatever o.o. So i count my fingers and i notice that my hand looks like it's overlapping and it seems that i have 6 fingers and i tell my self "Am i dreaming". As soon as i said that i heard it echo like 3 times and my heartbeat went up since i got excited because i knew i was dreaming when all of this was going on i hear my mom asking me if i'm going to eat breakfast( i thought she was calling me irl but it was actually in the dream). So i though i woke up but actually i went into sleep paralysis( third time this has happened, and they have all happened when i've napped, never at night.) and it took me look 30 seconds to wake up. I later go downstairs and ask my mom if she was calling me and she said no.( which is how i figured it was in the dream). It was kind of wierd but my question is... did i have my first lucid dream, or was i at least close to getting my first one? Sorry if what i wrote sounds stupid... kind of freaked out.

Don't worry, they will get longer as you have more of them and you learn to keep your excitement down in a dream. Because that's what wakes up most of the dreamers when they are starting out. The looking at hands is a great reality check. You can add some mantras to it and some daytime awareness training for lucids dreams called DILD.

Here is a great guide for Beginners to tell you about different techniques.
So congrats to your first lucid! Happy dreams

As gab says, a lucid is a lucid!
Another thing you can practice in waking life is to say to yourself, "this is a dream..." or "if this is a dream..." How this is beneficial is because instead of freaking out or getting overexcited and causing yourself to wake up, you can calmly think about the situation next time. Good luck!
