You then attempt to fall back to sleep, but stay a little bit mentally aware. It is a seriously shortened WILD. Remeber it is Dream Exit Induced. Just waking to an alarm is not enough. It should be an interuption of a dream. This gives the benifit of being inside an REM cycle. The disadvantage is it is very easy to fall back to sleep without staying aware.
When I experience DEILD I wake up but keep my eyes closed and try to move as little as possible. Often it happens when I wake briefly to change position because my hair is tickling me or hot on my neck.
DEILD seems to work best when I wake up after 7 to 8 hours of sleep but I'm still tired and comfy. At this point I have had enough rest so I don't fall asleep immediately but I am tired enough to be able to take my conscious state of dreaming back into the same dream or into a new one.
Yesterday I ruined a lucid dream because I became conscious enough to realize I was drooling on my arm and decided to move instead of going back to sleep. Being aware can sometimes have its drawbacks. ;)
