DEILD Question
this has probably been asked before but when i try to DEILD i lay there for a while and jus fall back to sleep :( what do i have to do to stay awake and how do i keep that consciousness going into a dream please explain it in a lot detail it would be greatly appreciated

One idea is to pick an anchor, something you think about so you stay conscious but not too much to the point where you can't fall asleep. Common anchors are heartbeat, breathing, and counting in your head. Basically anything that requires a little attention but enough so that you won't just fall right asleep. One of my favorite things to do is visualize the dream I was just in. I imagine myself back in the dream doing whatever I was when I first woke up. If I do this correctly then as I'm imagining what I would have continued doing in the dream I eventually find myself actually doing it. At this point I go about doing whatever my goals are for that night.
An example would be you woke up from a dream in which you were making a sandwich. Once you wake up immediately picture yourself finishing the sandwich, and then eating it. Go through it thoroughly picturing yourself lifting the sandwich and taking a bite, then chewing it. Focus on how it feels, tastes, and smells. Immerse yourself back in the dream and before you know it you will be eating the sandwich!

Maybe you are trying not to stay aware but just waiting for something to happen, causing you to fall asleep. When you wake up, keep your mind conscious by repeating the mantra "The next scene will be a dream". Don't try so hard to keep aware that you can't fall asleep though. This is what makes techniques like WILD and DEILD sometimes challenging. You have to have the right level of awareness so that you don't fall asleep unconsciously or keep yourself up. The easiest method to DEILD is simply visualize the dream you woke up from. We visualize and we dream in the same area of our big human brain. This is not theory but a bio-medical fact. Research the secondary visual cortices.
