Hi guys, I already asked someone whether this was possible and they said yes so I just want to be sure. I have this bracelet which i always wear and have worn for ages. Would it be possible to use the bracelet as a reality check since it never seems to appear in dreams. So when it's on, I'm awake and when it's off I'm dreaming?
Any advice will be great :)

Yes I'm pretty sure you could use your bracelet as an RC check by adding it to your RC routine during the day. Perhaps whilst checking the bracelet is there (by looking first) then try bringing other senses into play. Touch the bracelet, notice how it 'feels' on your skin, etc. 'Daydream' during the day about it as well.
This will hep you reinforce your check/observation, so hopefully when you 'see' or notice your bracelet in a dream then you have a higher than normal chance of becoming aware of the fact.
Keep a Dream Journal - make your bracelet a 'dreamsign' and look for other common themes, etc.
Draw your bracelet, notice how the light and the sun refect off it. You can even try a dream incubation by sleeping with your bracelet under your pillow which is one thing I do with objects I have emotional attachment to.

In addition to RobStar's comment, such a RC should be ok if you did it in detail, as s/he mentioned. But using the simple existence of a likely object as a RC, I would consider an unnecessary complication (to have to check in such detail). In my opinion, a reality check that distinguishes itself from your waking-life by breaking the laws of physics is more trustworthy (e.g. attempting to drive your finger through your palm).
If the bracelet really does never appear in dreams, even now that you're emphasising it... then I suppose if you get your head around it, it could be a handy RC. Sweet dreams.
It could work, although dreams can be very vivid and easily trick you to believe that you are awake. If there is text or something on it with great detail on the bracelet that is hard for the mind to recreate then I guess it could work. I use a ring, but I use it the other way around I only use it while I am sleeping, so if it's off or on in the dream while I am not in bed, I know it is a dream, but as I said sometimes the brain trick me anyway. "Oh the ring is on I must have forgot to put it off when I got up this morning". So it is a little unreliable, but it doesn't hurt to try =D

Okay thanks everyone. I will try what you guys said since it does hold emotional value for me. If it does start showing up in dreams then i guess i will have to leave it alone. Thanks :)
Personally, i like to use bracelets as a reminder to do reality checks. Every time i feel the watch or bracelet on my wrist, i will heighten my awareness, take a second look at my surroundings, and do a reality check. I think actually using the bracelet as its own reality check would not be too helpful because dreams are all about expectation. When you do a reality check in reality you expect the bracelet to be on your wrist. In a dream you will do the same because you think you are in waking life. Good luck! :)
I was thinking of drawing or painting something on my arm, nothing permanent mind, and something personal to me that I could look at during the day or night, etc.
I would have to be a bit careful of the paint or the ink regarding allergies; and also if I forgot about it and went shopping: for example, if I drew something a bit risqué, or really wierd! :chuckle:
Perhaps even a simple quote. :)
Well the fact that a reality check is usually more focused on checking reality than inducing lucidity might complicate some things. Think about it, if you become lucid and start wondering if you are wearing a bracelet to check if you really are dreaming you might just conjure it onto your wrist, whilst checking if you can breath to a shut nose never changes and rarely fails due to expectations.Quote:

I've managed to come up with a quick something as an example to try out myself. However I will probably end up with skin rash, or yellow highlighter ink on my face in the morning as it will probably rub off whilst I'm sleeping. :eek:

This may sound outrageous, but I do something similar... Using a headband.. I'm a deep sleeper, and have no trouble passing out while being subjected to physical stimuli or loud noises. I only wear this headband during the night, but somehow always check for it in a dream.
If you are going to use your bracelet as a reality check, don't just analyze if it's there or not. If it doesn't stretch in waking life, try to stretch it while firmly believing that it has the properties of a rubber band. If it is flexible, stretch it anyways. Dreams have an odd way of presenting themselves.
