Best LD method for busy people???

Hey all,

I got back into lucid dreaming around the beginning of June this year. After about a month of trying I got up to a frequency of around 1 lucid dream every 3 nights, the most I've ever experienced, although I wasn't able to do much in those dreams (but that's a topic for another time). I am in college, and now that school has begun again, I am incredibly busy and cannot devote a lot of effort to lucid dreaming. I have not had an LD for about 3 weeks. I am wondering if anyone has an opinion as to which method would be the best to induce LD's for someone who is really busy. I'm kind of afraid that there isn't a method that requires minimal work, but we'll see.

In my opinion, your situation may actually benefit you moreso than if you had more time to lounge around. Let me explain... Your RCs, How often do you do them now? I'm betting not often, correct? Well that's where you need to start. You don't really need to change anything about your routine, you just need to condition your mind to check reality often because of all the interacting your doing in your day. In a Dream we are rarely alone, we are usually distracted by someone or something, therefore when your mind becomes conditioned to constantly question your reality even in various situations, chances are that your will carry this into your Dreams. DILD would be the way to go if I were you. It all starts with the RCs man. When you ask yourself that question, of whether your Dreaming, try to remember how you came to be where you are. Try to follow a linear memory path, and if you cannot, then you are most probably Dreaming.

I never do any reality checks during the day and haven't done that for about a year now. Instead I try to wake up naturally during the night and usually so I can DEILD, but even if I don't succeed the DEILD just falling back to sleep with the intention can make me become more aware in my dreams and make me realize that I am dreaming. You need to have the habit of doing reality checks in dreams though, so it's probably good to practice the way PlanesWalker described but you don't haveto do it for the rest of your life. So you have to make it a habit... The time that takes vary but around 1-4 months.

If you absolutely don't have any time to do it... Then I guess you could do affirmations while going to sleep. Like "I look at my hands when I dream". Because that can work as well.

I do keep a Dream Journal and think it's important, but what I would do if I were busy all the time would be just focus on what I could do in the night.

It's not easy to start to become aware of the awakenings during the night, but there is one way that made one member on this forum have his first lucid dream and my IRL friend to break his dryspell.

I call it the water routine and was first presented to me by a member called (idkwhattoput) :P

Before going to bed you drink two big glasses of water and then just go to sleep. This will both make you become more aware of your awakenings during the night and also give you one free WBTB later in the night for obvious reasons :) Your body wakes you up to go to the bathroom.
Then you can just go to sleep again and you already are gonig to be more aware in your dreams.

Also if you are stressed out when you go to bed, your dreams will be chaotic and strange and therefore harder to be aware in, so if you are a stressed out person I suggest that you do some basic meditation while going to sleep.
Not "ahum ahum" meditation but more of a stress relief meditaiton. I usually imagine a safety box and think of all the problems in my life and then just put them inside the box and close it. Then tell yourself that these concerns will only be in the way and you ignore them for now because nothing is going to disturb your sleep. Just by acknowledging your problems you can make yourself feel better.

I would say the MILD technique is best for busy people! Read this MILD tutorial for further instruction. It only takes a few minutes before bed and you can pair it with doing reality checks throughout the day.

I totally agree with Mancon on this one, MILD seems the right approach to you. The good thing about it is that people can already be skilled at MILD right when they start, since the better prospective memory you have, the better the chances are of becoming using this technique.

Also, you're in college. You're probably swarmed on things you have to do, papers you have to write, exams that you have to study for, things to remember in your every-day student life. Take a look on this and you'll find out why you're "busy life" may be a very good indicator that MILD will do wonders to you :)
