      Traditional DILD

So I'm pretty new to this lucid dreaming stuff and I've gotten off to a great start. Using someone's tutorial about awareness I've been practicing a lot when I'm just sitting around with nothing to do. Now so far it has worked great, from day one I've had at least one normal, vivid dream a night. I should also probably mention I started practicing on the 10th of this month. About 2-3 nights ago I started to take the next step and attempt to gain lucidity. I'm using the traditional DILD method as the title states, problem is, for some reason I just can't seem to gain lucidity even at the most obvious signs such as objects glowing. For example, about a week ago I had a dream where I was pretty much playing The WarZ in real life but everything that is virtual such as the HUD and blue glow around items was there. Since when the fuck do you have an HUD in real life? Lol. Anyways I'm curious to why I am not getting these clues that I am dreaming after these obvious, in your face, moments. Is it maybe because I'm so deep into the dream I don't even notice this stuff is totally unrealistic?

Well DILD is kinda hard to do without it just randomly happening so i recommend WILD.

WILD is a more difficult technique in general so I recommend MILD, or something like a FILD or DEILD. The first is a branch of DILD, which is closer to what you are looking for, and the latter two branch off of WILD, but are significantly easier.

When we dream the aminergic system (governs critical thinking) is very low and the cholinergic system of the brain (well basically one reason to why we dream) is high.

When your dream is supervivid and you see this glowing weird thing, you don't question it because your logic system is basically shut down.

When we are lucid the aminergic system is higher and that makes us question things, although how we with just intent can make a aminergic system raise in the middle of the night is a mystery.
It's sort of like we with just intent can raise our arm! Free will but with brain chemistry... WOW!

Some people might say that it's because we are so close to the waking state and the sun makes the aminergic system with melatonin etc. to raise.
Well that doesn't explain the fact that you can still become lucid in the first REM period!

Anyhow.. my point is that you don't have to blame yourself for not noticing weird things in the dream, at those moments in fact, it's almost as hard for you as understanding a blackhole.

What you can do though is to either do is:
      1. WILD which makes the aminergic stay high as you fall asleep and BAM higher chance for DILD even if you fail the attempt.
      2. WBTB, stay awake for 1-2 hours increase the aminergic system while awake and then go to sleep and fall asleep with the aminergic system already high.
      3. DILD: MILD with a balanced intention will the aminergic to spike at some time during your sleep.
(4.) DILD and while lucid in the dream will yourself to wake up (increase the aminergic activity) and then perform a WILD: DEILD and go back to the dream which will make the aminergic being high and the cholinergic increase which will give you both more VIVID dreams and more aware dreams. (in the critical thinking sense).

Never blame yourself, always ask why things are as they are.

No need to change your technique. DILD can give you pretty consistent results. I would just suggest to finetune it a little bit.

Practicing awareness is great, but adding RCs and affirmations is necessary. For your mind to start questioning wheather you dreaming or not, you need to train your mind to do that. In this Collection of techniques for DILD, you will find everything about mantras, RCs+awarness and dream recall. You can also join me in DV Academy DILD class. It's free and I can provide personalized guidance for your DILD quest.

I understand that there are all these different methods but I can't really afford to be waking myself up in the middle of the night, I have school, work, etc.. Which is why I chose DILD because it doesn't interfere with my performance in other areas such as school and work. Maybe on weekends I'll try stuff like WBTB and others mentioned but for now I'm gonna go ahead and browse the links that gab posted, thanks everyone!
