For DILD, it probably doesn't matter, because you are likely to change position as you sleep without even realizing it.
For WILD, it's a little more complicated.
When I WILD at night, I pick a comfortable position. I never sleep on my back and my comfy position is on sides and I got WILDs and OBEs on both sides.
When I WILD in the morning, as a morning nap, I recline on my sofa in half-sitting position (well, it's closer to laying than sitting). On a sofa because this lets my mind know, that it's special time, when I don't want to just plain fall asleep. And I can sleep nicely on my sofa too, that's how I fall asleep with TV on quite often.
Some people may recommend position, that is slightly uncomfortable. Like having your arm little bit crooked. This will serve then as anchor, to keep your mind aware. But for me, I find it too distracting. And if something is little distracting at the beginning, it becomes unbearable after 20-30 min and all I can think of is that.
Don't forget, if you find your position uncomfortable, you can move into different one. It may set yu back a few minutes, or it may not, but it will not ruin your attempt. Some tutorials even suggest switching position after every few min or so.
Both methods (moving and not moving) work.
Pick your favorite comfy position and go for it!
Although it's not as comfy, I find sleeping on my back puts me in a better state of mind for lucid dreaming.
