Am I getting close?
So I decided to try my second WILD this afternoon and I started hearing loud random sentences exclaimed by random people that i knew was in my head but sounded so real, and then buzzing, very loud buzzing that got more intense. It was a strange relaxing feeling. It was like in waves and it was going on for about 30 seconds (I think) but as soon as I realized it was happening I felt more awake and then opened my eyes. When I the tip of my finger was a bit numb. Am I getting close?

These sounds (and sights, sometime) are what is referred to Hypnagogia. You were in a theta brainwave state which is akin to self-hypnosis. The next stage of sleep would occur in with the onset of Delta brainwaves. At that point you would be asleep and possible experience NREM dreams (non-REM). These are completely natural stages that we all go through as we fall off to sleep. I have had very vivid NREM lucid dreams in my life, so yes you were close. Sometimes, however, being hyper-aware of the falling asleep process can work against you. Anyhoo, hope this helps. Good luck to you!

So did I WILD wrong or...?

Yes, you are getting close. No, you weren't really doing anything wrong. Most of the time, it just requires that right amount of balance between awareness and sleepiness so you don't abruptly wake up once you notice yourself going into the dream. When you start going into that dreamy state with hypnagogia, you can try to visualize the dream you want to be in.
And i agree with everything faceonmars mentioned :)
Good luck!
