last week i had a dream where i almost became lucid, this week
only normal dreams come when i am sleeping, and they aren't even related
to lucid dreaming. And i'm not doing anything different on my techniques.
really, this lucid dreaming stuff is starting to piss me off
i'm starting to think this is all bullshit (sorry for language).
Lucidity isn't granted like that. Some people have their first lucid in a few days, other take months. There's no way to guess when your lucid dream is coming, because everyone has a different brain and a different way to develop their intention/wish.
Besides, there's no "normal" and "special" dreams. Dreams are random, a matrix of short and long-term memories influenced by emotions, fears, mental schemes, hopes, etc. Even if you were a regular lucid dreamer, big chances would be that the majority of your dreams wouldn't be related to lucid dreaming, since it's more a mental epiphany than thinking over and over about the experience (although expectation certainly offers a good deal).
Two weeks is extremely short to test anything, especially if it's your first time trying lucid dreaming. You underestimate the process: lucid dreaming is not "dreaming about something", but more like "increasing brain activity" through mental associations and exercises.
Even though I'm sure it seems frustrating, try to let go of the impatience and just keep practicing the basics (they form the pillars of your lucid dream path) and you're chosen technique and give it time. With the majority of people, lucid dreams show up when they least expect. A bit of anxiety is normal, but frustration only makes things harder.
Then why are you here? You obviously want to learn how to LD, but with that attitude you aren't. Patience is extremely important. Since dreams are subjective you need to believe. Now imagine me saying that with a dramatic voice and rainbows flying everywhere.Quote:

I used to be a fairly proficient lucid dreamer years ago, and thus I was fully expecting this to be easy to get back to. It is not. I thus far was lucky enough to have had one lucid dream thus far since returning to the hobby, and because of my prior experience I do know that I can do it. In my case I even know some of the reasons it is not working yet: I have too much stress in my life, am having trouble sleeping, most of my dream recall has been from first part of the night when REM is too short, and I often wake up too much when writing down a dream at night, plus I am not as young as I used to be and thus I may need supplements to help kickstart things as well because my natural chemistry is no longer as good at this as it was when I was a young adult. It's frustrating though to not succeed when one's expectation was that this would be so much easier. I got to adjust my expectations, be patient, continue trying, try new methods, work on reducing stress even more and improving sleep. I don't know how much or how little of this applies to you as well. Good luck to both of us.
Hey Slenerim. I just want you to know that it took me one year of trying before I was able to have my first lucid dream. The dream lasted about 5 seconds before I lost lucidity. I can now manage 2-3 lucid dreams per week when I'm doing well, or have dry spells that last weeks. Some of my dreams can last for long periods of time and some of them last 10 seconds. It all depends.
The thing is: it doesn't come naturally to some people, and some people have to try way harder than others. Some of us have to try very, very hard indeed. I stuck with it for an entire year specifically because of the research stated earlier in this thread (LaBerge, Keathe) and to prove to a friend who kept claiming that "people don't actually dream" (basically people just interpret 'junk data' once they wake up as having been a "dream") that he was full of ****.
It took me a year to do it but I won the bet, by the way.
What I'm saying is, don't give up. It's fully worth it once it pays off, but it's just tougher for some people. That's not fair, but I've found that there's a flip-side to it - it's harder for me to induce lucidity, but many of my lucids are extremely vivid and stable in a way that seems to take other people a lot more practice to achieve

Really, i can't get any more hopes to have a lucid dream.
I get frustrated every time a new member joins here and after 2
days or something he has a lucid dream, i practiced over 3 months
and nothing happened. This weekend i will give my last attempt on lucid dreaming
if i don't have a LD i will automatically give up on all this and keep going with my life
In that time i won't care anymore. So i hope god bless me and will help me.

Also I would say not to set lucid dreaming as the goal, but remembering as many dreams as you can, in as much detail. You will probably find some dreams (non-LD) are really vivid, and awesome, and can be as fun as LDs...give you the same feeling of "being there". Doing that you wont get discouraged as most nights are rewarding. The LDs will come.
Also another option is to try what I am doing: since I am having trouble with dream recall and lucid dreaming, I have switched for now to concentrating on self-improvement in waking life of improving my awareness, memory, and also questioning waking reality but without the need to translate this into lucid dreaming right away - for now I am focusing on improving while awake in a direction that will hopefully eventually lead to lucid dreaming.
Exactly, most of my best dreams are actually non-lucid. While everybody at DV probably enjoys the simulated reality of LDs, it really comes down to (some more than others) we really love dreams and the capabilities of the human mind. Slenerim, you shouldn't give up.Quote:

You can take the horse to the water, but you can't make it drink. We have all put a lot of effort in convincing you, but it is you who has to convince yourself Slenerim.
By the way have seen some old posts of yours, you had 5 lucid related dreams...anyways...we can only do as much. If you don't feel like trying for LD and it is against your true desire, then nobody is forcing you to do anything after all. Good luck with whatever you decide for LDs!
