      Suggestions?

Hi, so I've been attempted to lucid dream for a while now. I have gotten lucid once or twice in the past but never for more then a minute (after which I usually wake up due to excitement). Then I moved, and I didn't have time to really focus on it so I stopped entirely. Now for the past couple months I've been trying to get back into the swing of things but have had very few dreams that I even remember, though I'm trying to keep a dream journal. I also find myself too lazy sometimes to get up and write my dreams down in the middle of the night. Also, I havent been able to remember to do reality checks very often (I do it at least 5-6 times a day lately).

So I was wondering if you guys have any suggestions as to keeping a dream journal, and using reality checks more often then I am now so I can hopefully get back to having lucid dreams again. Thanks, greatly appreciate it!

From what I have heard reality checking 5-6 times a day is a good amount, I am new to this and I dont get up as soon as I wake to write down my dream, instead I lay still for about 10 - 20 minutes and think about what I dreamed and if I think about the right things I will remember. No disrespect to you but being lazy doesnt help, be more enthusiastic.

Yeah, I do think that's probably the biggest factor so it's probably my fault lol. It is encouraging to hear I've been doing enough reality checks, I suppose it's just a matter of me stopping being lazy and write down the dreams more often lol. Thanks for the reply.

I will use an analogy of meditation, because the process of doing at that and lucid dreaming is almost identical!

In the beginning you hate to meditate, you think it is silly you are worried of being judged by other people. And at first you can barely meditate for a minute...
But you have to start somewhere so you decide to make it an habit to meditate once a day for 1 minute. You can choose to do that for a week, a month, whatever time you need. But when you start doing it you find that you can increase the time after just a few days. Somedays the sessions feels perfect, it couldn't have gone better and sometimes you can't barely concentrate at all, but the whole point of meditation is to not judge yourself and let go of ego so you just accept that fact.

Well I went through this process and today I meditate daily for 20 minutes!

So why not try the same for reality checks and dream journaling? Make a goal to write down one dream each morning and to perform one reality check every day.

When you feel like you can do more just increase the amount recall of dreams and reality checks you do.

      Maybe this can help you.

      Sweet dreams!

I would suggest that, yes, you keep a dream journal. Read it before bed to get ready for sleep with a sense of continuity and maybe even visualize last nights dreams as though you became lucid in them.

I found my reality checks became far more effective and consistent when I tied them to specific cues - especially ones that are regular and part of my active day. I also rotate and alternate them. So leaving or entering the office, paying for something, and speaking with family might be one day's cues. I find I am too busy in my dreams to idly speculate if I am dreaming, so getting into the habit of considering the possibility when I am busy during the day helps make a habit of it.
