ADA in video games
I recently learned about the ADA technique (recently as in last night) and I got really excited about trying it. I just had a question about how you would observe your world around you when you're playing a video game, or reading a book, or doing anything else in which you are almost fully absorbed in the material and are too focused on what you're currently doing to take any notice to your lungs breathing or the birds chirping, etc. I play a lot of video games and watch a lot of TV during these summer days. Can you take a notice to the the aspects of the video game you're playing as opposed to your own world? maybe listen to your characters footsteps? Maybe you could remind yourself that you're playing a video game? Thanks!

Interesting. Donīt know really but it seems a matter of one or multiple focuses and if you have training for that. If you are completely absorbed in one object all the rest will disapear until you change your attention to another object. I donīt know if it is possible to be simultaneously aware of multiple objects regardless if they appear in your screen or in your environment as if there could be a wider focus.

I play video games a lot and to me the problem is that you have to use a lot of concentration and brain power on a game, leaving not much room for elsewhere. I'm certainly immersed in the game and not much on what's around me but it's probably because I simply can't do both. The idea of using ADA inside the game is a good one though; I imagine it would be easier to pay more attention to what's happening in the game since most of you're attention is there in the first place. Or it could at least be a stepping stone until you're more used to it and more able to focus on the outside world more?

You know, that might be a good experiment for an experienced Lucid Dreamer to attempt. I too enjoy playing video games, and that does make it awfully hard to practice ADA when playing. That said, when I AM playing a game, I take a break from it long enough to perform a reality check or three during the session--just to try and get my brain in the habit of doing them no matter what is going on. Eventually all these RCs will pay off!
