How to "leave your body" ?

Hello. I am currently reading through Michael Raduga's "The Phase" it explains that Lucid dreaming, Out of body experiences, astral projection etc are all basically the same. This referring to them all as The Phase. His "Indirect Techniques" basically describe a DEILD situation. Upon waking from sleep you immediatly try and "walk, lift, float etc" out of your body. If this is unsuccessful you immediately start to cycle through different techniques "Phantom wiggling, Strain the Brain, Observing images etc" until one of them works, you then proceed to exit your body. My question is how exactly are you supposed to sit up out of your body or roll out of your body without actually moving your real body? I've been trying this the past few nights but I'm getting stuck at the point where you are supposed to exit your body. Just imagining it doesn't do anything, and if I move my real body.. well yeah that fails as well lol.

Remember, the goal of DEILD is simply to trick your body into falling back into REM sleep. You don't have to exit your body if you're dreaming.

If you can't move your body while dreaming, you could try floating your one body into the air. Think something along the lines of "Okay, I'm going to float out of my bed," and imagine your real body floating. You should be able to do this if you're dreaming. Once you're in the air, then you could then land, at which point you should be able to move.

I have also read Michael Raduga's book, and I too have experienced problems with the same thing. A while ago, I did achieve it, but it didn't last long

My first lucid dream I was out of my body. I was at a concert kind of floating among the crowd more in the role of a camera than a human. Not sure how I accomplished it, I didn't have much control.

I'm guessing that you are not asleep yet when you try to exit. You have to have the intention of moving without actually doing so; imagining it simply does not work (as you said). So you set your will to sit up as you normally would, but it is only the will that is moving. When you are properly asleep it will work. Sometimes you will believe that you moved your real body inadvertently, but then realize that you were in fact successful. It all depends on the level of sleep.

You may find more success if you try to exit immediately with no delay after a dream. If this does not work, then go back to sleep enough to try again, or use Mr. Raduga's cycling system.

A good way to practice is to imagine that your leg is immobilized. Try to use all of your will to move your leg, but remember that you cannot actually move it or the practice is pointless.

As the others have said, the goal of the technique is to get you back into a dream. You have to be asleep to dream, and if you can't get yourself into the dream then you obviously can't exit your body.

A way of doing DEILD that I like the sound of is imagining the scenario you want to be in. This gives you more control, because it means that your body will already be "out of bed" and in the action of wherever you want to be. It also means you will definitely know when you are in the dream; it will be quite clear to you.
