Can I use Fact that in real life I have NO GIRLS as a Reality Check?

Hi 2 week lucid dreaming practiioner. male . i've never had a lucid dream and my recall of dreams is not good currently . although it became really good back 2 years ago when i practiced dream journaling. PS I also restarted dream journaling

Anyways,
In real life i've never had a girlfriend, never a female friend. Yet in my dreams i have girls i get close to girls, i even have sex with them.
Is that in itself a reality check? where i could say "Hey i'm close to a girl, this must be a dream!!!!!"

I personally think i could use that as a reality check. And i'm able to set intent of what i want to dream about. I practiced that before and it works, so i could make girls in my dream and then i'd do the reality check, and then that would make me lucid ( if i am able to remember to do the reality check in my dream)

that would actually be a dream sign. A reality check is something that you do to see if you are dreaming, like trying to push your finger through your hand.

Oh ok. thanks for telling me that. Yeah i'm not really sure i have many dream signs that i know. Like for example what are dream signs?

I have had demons and possesions as nightmares recurring, is that considered a dream sign?

Or what exactly is a dream sign?

A sign that you are dreaming, something that you don't see or experience in waking life.

You mean like an object? And by recurrent do you mean every dream?

Would my sister wanting to kill me be a dream sign? Cause that happens in many dreams? or do you mean an object?

mmm, if you mean an object that appears in all of my dreams, then i wouldn't know.

I'm not too informed about the dreaming lingo, but that sounds similar to something that happens a lot in my dreams to make me luciD! I open a door to a dark place and there's some morphing spirit that can take on any shape that keeps trying to prevent me from closing the door. I always remember that is something that only happens in dreams.

Not to be argumentative, but it's actually a good idea to choose dream signs that you frequently see in dreams AND in waking life. The idea is to do an RC each time you encounter one of your dream signs, and if you choose dream signs that don't exist in your waking life, then you'll never actually do any RCs. Though it is a good idea to use things that aren't too common in your waking existence, otherwise you'll be RCing all the time and it will become routine. I think a good idea is to use a mix of things that you very well can run into IWL as well as a few that you're not likely to.

yea that makes a lot more sense, I had to have this crazy dream for years before I started to recognize it as my being dreaming. And! the fact that I still have it tells me that I have some unresolved issue with the nightmare, which probably isn't too healthy.

I think you should definitely also use having a girlfriend or making out with chicks as a dream sign too, since it happens frequently in your dreams. In fact, before falling asleep, you should lay in bed and visualize the scenario in some way it sometimes happens in your dreams, and imagine yourself then realizing you're dreaming and becoming lucid. Be sure, even in the visualizations, to then stabilize and do a few RCs.

Be careful though - don't get carried away with these visualizations, it could prevent you from falling asleep and get your mind somewhere else entirely. I'd say go with romantic or just everyday encounters, not sexual. On second thought, if even that causes too much distraction maybe don't visualize it at all. You want to fall asleep with the idea of becoming lucid firmly in mind, not romantic fantasies.

Well, the real "best" is -- it depends, on the dreamer and the dreams. I have a primary DS that occurs with high frequency in dreams but is nearly impossible to encounter in real life. So I just practice visualisation during the day imagining that DS and tell myself, e.g., "I'm dreaming", or "this is a dream, " usually visualizing recent dreams with that DS. This has led to a several recent lucids and near-lucids.

So yes, I think it is a good approach to use what is frequent in your dreams even if not in WL. Use WL for other RCs: based on whatever you want: time, something surprising, etc.

My brother has used females as a dream sign to become lucid, and he isn't really into dream control at all and doesn't remember most of his dreams.

I used to use guns as a dream sign. Any time someone would pull a gun on me I would instantly become fully lucid as a reaction to the threat of the gun. Also because getting shot can hurt, even in your dreams, so usually the first thing I would do is turn off pain or throw up some sort of barrier, then tell the gunner to shoot me up. Fun times lol. If I had ever met a gun like that irl, I likely would have done the same thing, likely without a very good ending, but meh.. life is but a dream, and everyone has to leave this dream sooner or later.
