      This was WILD or FILD?

Hi. Last evening I could not sleep and said: Hey! I should try wild tonight, even if I shouldnt do it straight when I go to sleep it passed almost a hour since I`ve been in bed and above this I have nothing to lose. So I turned on my back, relaxed and started counting. When I got to 30-35 I became really relaxed and said : I should try FILD, I never succeded in it! I started moving my fingers and after a few seconds I started to see some strange patterns. Then the patterns got ''bigger'' and started to look like some vines on a bluish backround, and then the vines transformed into some exotic tree's branches and I could see a beach in front of my. I got REALLY excited because I never succeded anithing with FILD, and I never tried it in the evening, and my eyes started to open alone, so I did not went all the way but still its a huge progress. Because I have not heard any sound strange and I didnt eneterd in Sleep Paralysis I think that the FILD did it. What do you think? And by the way -so i don't start another thread- it seems that for me WILD and FILD its easier when I go first in bed and not when I wake up in the middle of the night. Is this strange? And why you can do FILD just once a night?

From what you described, what you experienced wasn't transition to REM, it was more likely to be simply hypnagogic imagery, which is predominant in the first stages of sleep. Hallucinations aren't necessarily an indicator that you're about to transition into the dream, at least unless you are in clear REM rebound. Along that, you didn't feel SP because sleep it isn't a common occurrence, and you probably won't experience it if you haven't until now.
Also, FILD being a variation of WILD, you can think of it more in the lines of "hey, maybe this works with me!" and not so much "was this X or Y?", because the fact that you found something that works with you it's the most relevant aspect of all

WILD or any variation are most effective when:

      - You have REM rebound (like being sleep deprived)
      - You experienced a significant amount of N-REM sleep, and your brain compensates with more (and earlier) REM, so these are the situations where you want to perform it

I don't think that all was just hypnagogic halucinations because how I said my eyes started moving and later open themselves and the dreamscape was the beach. I think that the vines on the bluish backround was indeed hypnagogic halucinations but the beach no. Aniway i have discovered that Im not like the others ) every time I tried it was far more easy to relax when I go to sleep, in the night, when im sleepy i cant focus enough on my goals so i end up sleeping during triyng to Wild. Thanks for the reply

It is easier because you have more awareness, but there is no REM phase. What would be great is to WILD(or FILD) during an afternoon nap. you wouldn't be drowsy, and it's great for WILD(filled with REM). I know your gonna do it pal!
