Can anyone give me some tips on becoming lucid?

Alright so I have been trying to lucid dream for awhile now but have yet to become successful. I have tried all of the techniques multiple times and I even do multiple reality checks every day

I feel I have become close before but I have never crossed over into the feeling of being lucid in my dreams and a lot of my dreams should be major dream signs that HEY THIS IS A DREAM

the technique I try most is WILD but for some reason, I can lay completely still for anywhere between 1-3 hours, yet my body does not fall asleep. I stay completely awake and I do not move a single inch from the position I start in. I try to let my mind wander and stuff but it still doesnt seem to work.

I have tried eating and drinking a good amount of dairy products and cheese before sleeping and this does seem to improve my dream recall and overall vividness of my dreams but it has yet to help me become lucid.

Can anyone please provide me some advice? I would really love to start being able to lucid dream as it is a concept I find very interesting and fun.

I think that's not the best approach to choose. Instead of trying them all, choose one technique you like the most and give it a chance to work. With that I mean not just one or two nights but much more a month or two instead. I mean... it's like learning to play Badminton on one day and then trying out Tennis the next day. It won't work.
I would (as always) reccommend improving your daytime awareness for a start. If I were you I would definitely check out this tutorial. I have linked it to others before because I just love every bit of it. http://www.dreamviews.com/wild/13181...prep-part.html I'm not an expert on WILDs, but this first part is especially great for your self-awareness which is important to achieve lucidity :) - and of course you can read the other parts too if you you want to keep trying WILD!

Another thing: What about your DJ? Do you have one and what is your recall like? If you don't have a DJ I would highly reccommend one in ordner to become more familiar with your dreams and to improve your recall :)

Spontaneous Self-Awareness


This is the most common kind of lucid dream in beginners. In fact, your first lucid dream was probably caused by spontaneously lucidity. This occurs when you suddenly realize "I'm dreaming!" for no apparent reason. Or perhaps your dream became so strange (or in the case of a nightmare, so horrifying) that your conscious self-awareness kicked in.

Spontaneous lucidity can rely on luck. However, by increasing your self-awareness during the day time you can train yourself to recognize the dream state better, and thereby learn how to become lucid in dreams with ease. Through regular meditation and lucid dreaming, I have become a lot more self-aware, and this helps me recognize the dream state when anything strange happens.

I'll offer a few ideas. It goes without saying that you should remain consistent with all the usual things of dream journal, reality checks, and awareness. Here's some more narrow tactics that can get you over the hump for your first lucid dream.

- For DILD, narrow your focus to just 1 or 2 of the most frequently recurring dream signs. A person or place is best. Before going to bed and during WBTB, give yourself a pep talk to really set your intent to watch for that specific dream sign and respond by doing a reality check.

- Do you have false awakenings at all? If so, develop the habit of always reality checking every time you wake up. This is an easy dream sign that is often overlooked.

- If you can, perhaps on a weekend, spend a long time in bed, like 9+ hours. After that long, it's almost 100% REM and you can have many dreams and awakenings in between. This is very fertile ground for DILD and DEILD.

- Also something to try on a weekend, get less sleep one night so that you get REM rebound the next night. There are strategies and sleep schedules that attempt to do this regularly, but you don't have to go that far. You can just try it once or twice as a boost.

Few points:

1. Stick with one technique for at least a month, or longer. It needs time to start working.

3. Read and follow the above DILD guide, and wait to have a few LDs before moving on to WILD. Also, read this WILD (sageous) WILD It's long, but it will explain the whole process. It will also help yu with your DILD practice.

What works for me is trying several or even many times a day to float off the ground, knowing that when I finally do float off the ground, it means I am definitely dreaming. You should go to bed thinking about becoming lucid and even planning on it. Remember to stay calm when you realize that you are dreaming. Let your mind relax, and enjoy where you are.

Self-awareness.

This single word is probably the shortest and most compact possible way to explain how you become lucid.
In order to become lucid you need to develop a critical sense of awareness, learn to know your dreams, and feel genuinely curious of whether or not you might be dreaming at any moment.
A Dream Journal and Reality Checks are probably some of the most important "tools".

It can also be a very good idea to practice Lucid Living, which means that you think of waking life as a kind of dream and maintain awareness of all the details in waking life.
Observe the houses and trees around you, listen to the wind and the birds, smell the air, hear your footsteps, and so on and so forth.
Be absolutely present in every moment, but also make sure that it actually feels pleasant.
