Does reviewing your dream journal (actually reading some prior normal and lucid dreams) before falling asleep help to achieve lucidity? This is something I have never really done.

I think that it helps in at least 2 ways. One is that it gets your mind on lucid dreaming and the other is that you can be reminded of some recent dream signs or themes that may pop up again that very night and help nudge you towards lucidity. For best results, it should be part of a multi-pronged approach including day practices.
Well on this website, I read that looking through your DJ, you can spot dream signs which could help you become lucid as when you see it in another dream you'll realise "Hey, I saw that in my dream 3 days ago" or when ever, which will then make you lucid hopefully.
