How long to reach dream state after not moving?

So last night i tried for the first time, the wild technique.
I didn't get that far and i understand it was only my first try and heres how far i got.

So i closed my eyes and found the most comfortable position i could.
i then kept saying my mantra , " im in a dream, im in a dream"
then idk if this is what i was suppose to do or not but in my head i was imaging me and kate upton in a beach like i was physically there.
After doing that for a while nothing was happening so i just continued my mantra and didnt move.
( at this point its been over like 15 minuts and i havent moved.)
So after about 20 minuts, i start to see white sparkles on my eyelids like how you see when you rub your eyes somtimes.
at this point i had that feeling of not being able to move, ( not sleep paralysis, ive had that alot but it wasnt that )
its like u can move if u wanted to but u havent moved in so long that it just feels weird.
and this is the farthest i got.

Does anybody get the white sparkles or swirles in the beggining of trying wild? also is it good to imagine ur physically somwear like a beach or just mantra , or both?

i was in the state of seeing those white sparkles for a while and it was just taking forever and it felt like i wasn;t going anywhere so i just stopped trying such as stopped saying mantra and imaging me on the beach with kate upton and went to sleep noramly.

Also, how long of staying still does it take you guys to reach the lucid dream state? i think if i stayed in it lnger i maybe would of went into sleep paralysis, ( ive had it before ).

The only point of WILD is to maintain a degree of awareness while you are falling asleep, so you shouldn't make it too complicated and worry about finding the perfect position, lying perfectly still the whole time, falling asleep as soon as possible etc, because this will just make you feel frustrated.
All you need to do is to relax like you normally would, but just be more aware of what's happening while you fall asleep.
You can for example pay attention to your breathing or vividly imagine what you want the lucid dream to look like.
Also, if you feel like you are lying awake for a long time then there is actually a chance that you have fallen asleep and the dream starts out in what feels like your bed.
So if you feel that you have been lying in bed for some time, then it can be worth it to get up and test your surroundings, because it could very well turn out to be a dream.
But if you want to avoid ruining the WILD attempt then you can try to look through your eyelids, or listen to sounds that don't make sense.

The hallucinations that you see while trying WILD are totally normal, in fact they are kind of like the building blocks for dreams - it's called Hypnagogic Imagery, or Hypnagogic Hallucinations.
Everyone experiences this while falling asleep, but it might not be very noticeable, or we might forget about it when we wake up.
Don't become too involved in those hallucinations though, just observe them and feel fascinated by them.

I highly recommend that you check out Tim Post's Learn Lucid Dreaming videos on YouTube.
His first video series is more concerned with the Wake Back To Bed technique, but that's actually relevant for your WILD attempts because it makes WILD a lot easier.
WBTB actually makes all lucid dreaming induction methods easier, so it's very much worth to practice together with anything else.
Also, he does go more in-depth on WILD in his Advanced Lucid Dreaming series, so check out those videos as well.
Don't be intimidated by the "Advanced" part - those videos aren't that complicated at all, and are comprehensible enough for beginners as well.

Having a successful WILD might take a long time. I had one after 20 minutes and i also had one after 60 minutes.

Instead of thinking of something i try to think of nothing. I just lie there, just being aware, keeping all my thoughts off, or just let them wander my mind without actually thinking about them. This gets me the so called dreamlets or hipnagogic imagery and then the usual vibrations and, when i least expect it, i pop into a dream.

That weird feeling you describe is when your brain starts to slowly "disconnect" the body, as you get more and more relaxed and still in the same position. The time required to WILD depends on your practice and ability to remain calm, relaxed, and in a meditation state (as DreamHighlander said), and also on how tired, stressed, or excited you are of course... if you had lots of sleep, maybe it doesn't happen or either you lie there 1 full hour. If you're tired and are able to keep awareness without falling asleep without control, it could happen in a matter of minutes I guess...

I'm not an expert on these but on my experiences trying WILD (no success), I also feel that weird feeling, as if my hands were twisted, or not being able to tell my exact position... "where is my left arm.. up? down?"... it's like you slowly lose feeling in legs and arms. It's a good sign I guess, as long as you let your brain "go" while trying to keep awareness so it finally starts creating a dream and you just go in.
