What I've found works for Me.

I haven't really been on here for quite a few months and have learned a little more about how to Lucid Dream on a nightly basis, I've also come up with a couple of ideas that may help some of you get Lucid more often so wanted to share them.

I was last regularly posting on here about 8 months ago and at that time found a way I could LD on a nightly basis so wrote a post about it. The only problem was as I had been trying quite a few things, I couldn't be sure what was working and what wasn't and as I was getting such success, I didn't want to rock the boat and change anything. After not really trying to LD for some time though, I've found out what it was that was working and what was not.

The reason I Haven't been trying to LD the last few months isn't because I lost interest in them (How could you) but because I have been into something else and that has been consuming my thoughts. I had one of those LDs that just stands out and grabs your attention though and it sucked me straight back in, so thought I'd try the things I was doing before one at a time to see what it was that was working and weed out the rest.

The first night I naturally WBTB and without getting up, turned on my back and said to myself with conviction I'm Dreaming, this is a LD, etc... and tried to MILD as I used to before, fell back to sleep and didn't have a Lucid.

I tried this for 5 nights and never got Lucid, I know 5 nights doesn't sound like much but to me it's long enough to know this isn't working so I started trying Reality Checks throughout the day. I also had noticed my Dreams were not what they used to be, they were many and vivid but I could only remember bits and pieces of them, so thought I'd start writing a Dream Journal (which I'd managed to get away with not keeping one before, only having to write my Lucid's down).

The night I was going to write in the DJ though I couldn't be bothered so instead went over the Dream I'd just had in my head, I then did that for all the Dreams I had that night and it worked just as well as writing in the DJ, my Dream recall went up and they've became much more vivid again so worth a try for people who don't like writing in a DJ.

I had a Lucid on the sixth night but that was just a random one and then none for the next 3 nights.

On the 10th day I decided to start Prospective Memory again as this was what I thought had a lot to do with regular LDing before but wasn't sure. That night I naturally WBTB, turn on my back and say to myself with conviction I will remember when I am Dreaming, I do this a few times and let myself fall to sleep and find myself in a non Lucid Dream, after a minute or so I realize I'm Dreaming and become Lucid, success!

I try this for the next 5 nights and become Lucid the same way every night so pretty conclusive that for me (And if it works for me it will work for others) Prospective Memory significantly improves MILD attempts so well worth trying if you haven't already.

I've also found that I wake at the same time everyday for WBTB, then wake again around 1 hour later having had a Lucid in that time so I must be hitting my REM period nicely. If some of you have not been successful with WBTB maybe it's because you're just missing your REM phase, try changing your alarm half hour later or earlier and see if it makes a difference.

Lastly I wanted to try to think of a way to get some DILDs earlier in the night so I could get Lucid in the night instead of waiting for the early morning (might as well try to get in as much as possible) and came up with something simple. I just RC every time I realize I'm in different surroundings, for instance I'll be in the kitchen and RC, then at some point I'll realize I'm outside and RC and so on. My thoughts behind this is that Dream scenery can be rather changeable and it gives you a few chances each Dream to hopefully click on you're Dreaming. So far I've had a couple of DILDs from this in only a few days so it's looking promising.

I've been doing location awareness including transition awareness for some months now but only recently got lucid from that (definitively, where I was thinking about the location itself and how I didn't used to be here that led me to conclude I must be dreaming). I've had a few non-lucids where I'm thinking about my location but couldn't connect the dots. But after months of daily efforts, just a few dreams thinking about it doesn't seem like much of a success.

There's is a certain amount of base awareness or *something* that is needed for all these different approaches to work to yield lucidity. Maybe brain chemistry. Your very regular sleeping and WBTB regimen may be a major boost to your efforts.

Great to see you back Mr0Blonde! :) You actually came up in one of my questions (for the DV podcasts) that got chosen a while back regarding 100% lucidity. When you were here in 2013 I don't think I realized that you had already been a member since 2011 but saw that you understood much about LDing and appreciated our conversations! I just went back to look at how you started here and it seems that you took to LDing quite quickly, so you might be one of those semi-naturals or naturals. Either way, I feel your input can help others. :) Can you detail specific steps you take each day and night (i.e. what steps you take for prospective memory, what you do for your MILD, etc...)?

What do you mean when you say that you use "Prospective Memory"? Do you just set an intention during the day to lucid dream that night, or do you perform prospective memory exercises like LaBerge discusses in EWLD?

Oh so you've been trying the same thing without much success, that's interesting. Maybe it's just one of those things that might work for some and not as well for others, like you say something to do with different brain chemistry.

I find it easy to incorporate things into my Dreams, even without trying things get incorporated into them. When I watch a film or good TV show I'll very regularly have at least one Dream the same night that when I wake, think oh I Dreamt that because of that film I watched yesterday.
Just a couple of days ago I had a Lucid where I was walking and talking to a DC and when we turned a corner there was a large Aztec looking pyramid type building that isn't there in real life, as soon as I saw it I knew it was because I'd seen a very similar building on Game Of Thrones earlier that day.

The funny thing is though and I only realized this the other day.... I started smoking at a young age and smoked everyday for years up until a few months ago when I gave up and when I thought about it, realized I'd never had a single Dream where I've been smoking! I then thought about any other habits I might have to see if I've ever Dreamt about doing them, all I could think of was that I bite my finger nails and again, when I thought about it couldn't recall ever doing so in a Dream. That's a good reason to make sure RCing doesn't become to much of a habit so it doesn't suffer the same fate.

Oh cool, what question was that on 100% Lucidity?

I've been on here for a while now but sort of come and go, I'll post for a while and then not come on for sometimes a year then come back, don't know why really just the way I roll lol.

Yeah I pretty much took to LDing like a Duck to water, had my first intentional Lucid on only my third night, then had 3 in my first week! So was very lucky with them. I had had a few as a little kid but only very short ones and just assumed they were freak occurrences, always had lots of very vivid Dreams though.


Step by step what I do is.....

I'll get up and at some point not long after I'll think of 3 things to try to remember with PM, for instance I'll think "I'll remember the next time I hear a Dog Bark" I'll really try to ingrain it into my Brain by saying it internally a couple of times and I'll also imagine hearing a Dog Bark as I say it.
Then I'll think something like "I will remember the next time I see a Aircraft" (I live near a flight path so often see them) and again really try to get it in there by saying it 2 or 3 times with conviction and again try to imagine seeing an aircraft to ingrain it even more.
Then I'll do the same with a third thing, either seeing/hearing something you think you have a good chance of seeing/hearing that day. Obviously you then change the 3 things each day so they don't become to familiar but I will often use some of the same things after a week or so otherwise after a while it will be hard to think of new things you're likely to see/hear.

Hopefully then when you see or hear the thing you've tried to remember it will click in and you'll remember wanting to see/hear that and that's a successful PM. At first though a lot of the time you won't click on when you see/hear the thing as your PM isn't up to scratch and later you'll think of PM and realize you've seen/heard something you wanted to remember but missed it, after a while though you'll find you click on more and more and that is your PM getting better.

Along with this I've also been RCing when ever I realize I'm in different surrounding to try and get me some more DILDs like I've wrote in my first post and that's all I do for the day.

At night I'll then fall to sleep as usual not trying to Lucid Dream but just fall to sleep so I'll lay on my side. I'll often wake after most REM cycles and then go over the Dream I've just had in my head and go back to sleep, sometimes turning on my back giving me a chance of a natural DILD.
I'll then wake at the same time every morning about an hour before I get up, turn on my back if I'm not on it already and try to MILD (I don't get up for WBTB as I used to as even though I could guarantee a Lucid by getting my Brain very active It sometimes took to long getting back to sleep) I then say to myself with conviction (just like when I'm doing PM) "I will remember the next time I'm Dreaming" and internally say it few times in a row, I'll then only say once every minute or so until I drift off
If I feel I'm to awake though and that it will take ages to fall to sleep, after saying it around once every minute a few times I'll then know it's ingrained and just concentrate on relaxing and letting myself drift off.

One other thing that often happens which I'd forgotten about until it happened this morning is that when my mind is to active and It's a little difficult falling to sleep, I'll often end up having a WILD from doing this. As I say this happened this morning and as I was getting the very loud buzzing in my ears and falling sensation I thought of something I'd read on this Forum ages ago for some reason, about someone hearing blood curdling screams as they went through this, obviously thinking of that made it happen and it was pretty creepy lol, I lost the vibrating sensations and thought I'd blown it.
Feeling like I'm laying in bed awake I think to myself "Didn't get Lucid tonight then" then think "at least I got WILD sensations, I'll try to get up and check just in case" when I do I realize I'm not in Bed but getting up off the ground in my back garden and then realize I didn't blow it after all lol.

Yeah what I do for PM is the same as what LaBerge talks about in His Book, from what I can remember anyway, I've written step by step above so hope it helps.

I also tried reality checking to a change in location; I found it difficult, though, because I wasn’t sure what would classify as a ‘different’ location.

So I wonder if I could ask you a question:

Where exactly would you draw the line between one location ‘ending’ and another beginning? (Sorry if this sounds a bit strange! ;)) For example, if you’re driving, the surroundings will always be different, and it can be difficult to know when to reality check. Also, if you’re going between rooms in a house a lot, do you reality check every time you go into a different room? It’s a great idea, but these were the main difficulties I had when I tried it originally, I just never knew when to reality check.

Thank you for the detailed steps you use Mr0Blonde! Like the example in the quote above, if you think of other things later that you find helpful, let us know in here. :) I realized that I had gotten away from PM exercises. Before I mostly only used things that I needed to remember anyway as a PM exercise but sometimes also random things and need to get back to that as well as RCs. Up until recently my focus has been largely on my self within lucid dreams but the pendulum has swung the other way to where I am focusing much more on my surroundings which seems to have it's pros and cons, so I am working towards a balance currently.

My 100% lucidity question was something like "What are some of the best ways to get someone as close as possible to being able to LD any night that they try?"

Yeah I know exactly what you mean, it is a bit of a tricky one.
It depends really on how on it I am that day, if I've had a particularly good LD that morning I can go a bit overboard with it and RC in every room I go in, or any slight change of scenery as I'm thinking about it so much.

Other times though I'll RC, then won't RC again until I've forgotten about RCing, then when I think about it and find I'm in a different place, I'll RC again, also whenever I transition (or realize I've transitioned) from inside to outside is an obvious one.

When I'm in a car I'll usually RC just noticing I'm in a car, and only RC again as I'm driving if it's a very different surrounding I find myself in, like going from grey concrete urban areas to more greener suburban ones things like that, also if there's a big light change, like the sun going down or behind the clouds.

What are you're Lucid's like now? I see you've had a nice amount since I was last on here, what's the main way you've been getting in, DILD, WILD, etc? and what kind of lengths you getting?

I see I missed your last post here. (I haven't been getting to as many threads as I would like to.) So I would say that my pendulum of awareness which started off more on the self-awareness side has more recently swung towards awareness of my surroundings in the dream seemingly creating more vividness but lower lucidity. I feel like I am coming back the other way again and planning on settling into a nice balance and ideally with both aspects strong. I am getting mostly DILDs but after a period where I was getting quite a few WILDs I now have them occasionally. I would say that the average length of my lucids must be around 5 minutes with 20 minutes being about the max so far, so I recognize there is plenty of progress to look forward to. I think my biggest strength is dream control enjoying my normal flying especially but adding solid telekinesis ability, good summoning, and decent teleportation ability.

@fogel, how do you know how long they last??

^^ I'll chime in, for me I just rerun the events of the dream and estimate how long I it felt to be doing the various things. I don't have an LD longer than 5 minutes yet though so that's pretty easy to estimate :).

^^Exactly...just estimates of how long they felt. Mine last night must have been close to the 20 minute mark. It was a blast (for me personally)! Some people have LDs that feel like they lasted longer though! More room to grow!

Have you tried using the Prospective Memory MILD when you first go to bed?

I'm reading Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming and I can find no reason to wait until WBTB to do it, you can always do it several times in one night.

Just wondering if you have had a MILD before your WBTB using PM.

That's sounding good mate.
20 minutes is still a really nice Lucid length, anything around about 5-10 minutes I consider long enough to get a few things done but some of my short, only couple minute long ones have been among the best I've had so length isn't everything.

It's strange but I've never really tried that hard to teleport until I read your reply last night.,
I mean I've tried briefly walking through a door and being somewhere else on the other side but only a few times and without much success.

I do something similar to teleporting though by thinking, over that hill I'll see stonehenge being built or something like that and often get the desired result.
Last night however after reading your reply I made it my goal to really try to teleport.

I got Lucid, I'm in my street and think to myself, when I turn around I'll be on a beach or island with a beautiful sunset (I love sunsets in Lucid Dreams) and as I turn around I'm still in my street looking at one of my neighbors front door.

I think ok then I'll try the door one and as I walk through, find I'm just in their house so know it hasn't worked.
I look around the house a little but then go back to the door and really try to imagine a nice beach or tropical island again and just as I turn the door handle I hear seagulls!

I open the door and see a bright yellow sun high in the sky, it's not a sunset but a clear blue sunny day and I am on a massive cruise ship with loads of people partying.

Not quite what I was after but I was happy as it was close and I had a good Lucid off it.
I'll definitely try again tonight so glad you mentioned it.
How do you go about teleporting Fogel?

I often use TK and later in that same Lucid, as I was walking around the deck of the ship there was a load of people gathering around.
I couldn't see what was going on so levitated off the deck and could see two women fighting.

I start floating over the crowd towards them and some guy grabs my leg, pulls me down and starts having a go at me.,
I think big mistake, put my hand out and lift him off the deck about 6 foot using TK, everyone around him is looking shocked.

I flick my hand fast to the right and up slightly to launch him and he goes so far lol.
He arcs about 100 foot up into the air and flies spinning end over end about the length of a football pitch or more, before smashing into the side of a wooden pier lol, it looked so good and was pretty funny.

I haven't tried a MILD straight when going to sleep but often try them after I've naturally woken up (not WBTB really just a brief waking then straight back to sleep) earlier in the night and often get success.

I know you can WILD right from when you first go to sleep though even though many don't think you can as you're not in REM.
I used to try WILD when first going to sleep and even if I failed, knew I'd most likely get a DILD later that night because of it.

Sometimes though I'd slip into a WILD (or non Lucid, then become Lucid very quickly) and after I'd woke, see it had only been half hour since I went to bed so it can be done.,
They were vivid and realistic Lucid's but the only downside was they were quite short, only a minute or 2.

Still worth trying if you want as many ways in as possible though and I still had some good Lucid's from doing this so give it a try.

I use BrandonBoss/Sensei's closed eye teleport if I am in a scene. For me it is basically closing your eyes while imagining where you want to be. If I am already in the void I don't even need to close my eyes. Through a recent TOTM, some members on here realized that closing your eyes doesn't need to result in waking up for real as has been proposed by others throughout the forum. I feel that it is all about your expectations and it also helps to not let your expectations get "poisoned" (negatively influenced) by other people's problems or challenges with certain dream control aspects.

I really like how you handled that guy on the cruise ship!...sometimes I also get something a little different (or quite a bit different) in the teleport but it can be fun either way!
